He looks lavender to me, I think he just has poor feather quality. It is an issue with lavenders.

I wouldn't use him/her for breeding if you have better birds to choose from.

I don't have the knowledge to contemplate such a breeding program as those who breed these Lavender Orp projects birds. Being still an outcross breeding, I guess the reliability is far lower to replicate Laveneder then normal colors for the Orp breed. I know that Lavender is not an easy color to find in any breed, or species in the fowl world. I am sure your up for the challenge, enjoy your birds.

I'll try to find the specific information and copy it. The site author is the same person who created http://www.edelras.nl/chickengenetics/ But I don;t think the belgian site has been updated for a few years. It was available on its own (as compared with web archive) up through sometime late this past December or early January.

I could see some of it was outdated.
I don't know what e-allele of Belgians. Are they eb?
I think it would take more than Id & the W+ or w to make yellow or white shanks on an extended black bird.

I believe the Hinks did say at one point that they'd had mottled crop up in their lavender project birds. Possibly from the isobel porcelain Pyncheons? 'Split' mottled birds can show leakage as white tips to some feathers.​

My only problem is understanding the difference between inner and outer sides of feather shafts. Are we talking about the top of the feather and the side towards (or away from) the center of the bird? Or are we talking about the top and bottom of the feather?
