I was away for a night and just came back today. I didn't give my chickens enough food for the day apparently, i think they are eating more because of the hot weather maybe? But i got home and ran out to give them crumbles and some scraps. I gave them food and of course they were all very excited, but one of my hens wouldn't eat. Daisy sort of just walked around the run aimlessly. I went to pick her up and she didn't run away as quickly as usual, she is a very flighty hen. I picked her up and looked her over, she was recently attacked by something that ripped her beard out (she was otherwise unharmed, my EE got the worst of it but was also alright) so i thought she might still be a bit shaken up. She seemed completely fine i checked her feet, inside her mouth, and felt her bum for eggs and she seemed fine so i put her down. A few minutes later i found her in the lay bin way later then she usually lays. So i left her and came back maybe five minutes later to find a soft shelled egg with an odd thing hanging off of it. It was part of the membrane but hung off like a worm. Daisy seems better now but i haven't seen her eat yet. All of my chickens eat layers crumbles, I've been wanting to switch them to fermented feed but haven't had much time recently, and they have oyster shells in a small feeder in the run. To be sure they knew they were there i dumped the calcium on the ground along with what i had left in the bag. I have a flock of four hens, two Easter eggers and two amerucanas, Daisy is an amerucana and top of the pecking order. Does anybody know what the "growth" is or what caused it? I've included some pictures of Daisy and the egg. Thanks in advance.
