odd phone call

A florist left a voicemail on my phone telling me that if I still owed money for the flowers for my wedding and that if I didn't call back by x day she was going to cancel my order and I would have to find flowers elsewhere.

I wasn't planning a wedding. I called back and let her know she had a wrong number. I've wondered since then if the poor bride got to have her flowers.

...sometimes you don't.

you know what this story reminds me of? The 8 year battle with the dept. of transportation in Chicago who thinks I got a parking ticket there in a vehicle (or otherwise a plate we did not own at the time but apparently later must have received a dup.) we did not own on the day I was giving birth in another state. ha ha ha...

I keep talking to them and faxing them all the info and they keep assuring me I won't be bothered anymore... then after a few months... I get another notice. sigh. One lady told me just to pay the fine. IT'S NOT MY FINE!!!!

When we had a land line we used to get phone calls from an older lady looking for the man that mowed her grass. We told her numerous times that summer that she had the wrong number but she would call about 3 times a week. Finally after about a month my husband said if she called back he would just go mow her lawn. We never heard form her again but every time I hear the name "Larry" I think of that shaky voice saying " this grass is a mile high! Can't you come mow it down?"

When I got married I lived in a house that has been in my family for years. The phone number in the home has also been the same. Well my Uncle lived in it and died in 1988. Years later my husband and I lived in it. Well the Republican Party kept calling for my uncle. I would tell them to take him off the list due to fact he has passed on. The calls kept coming. So one night when they called I told them he no longer lived at this number or address. The lady asked me if I knew where he was living now. I stated yes. Then she asked for his new address and new number. I stated that I didn't know the address, but he is the graveyard in the hollow. Then I said that last I knew God didn't let you have a phone line, so maybe if they called him, he could give him a message. Well that was about 15 years ago. Guess what someone finally figured it out because they never called again.

I'm enjoying all these stories about strange phone calls, thanks for sharing, most entertaining.

Ever since we've moved into this house we'd get these messages from a guy "across the street".

Most of the time it was like "Hey, this is Jim from across the street. I got some of your mail today so come over after work and I'll give it to you."

I was forever looking across the street trying to figure out who the heck Jim was...I didn't know either of the families living over there and to make matters worse we do have a friend named Jim!

Every now and then he'd call back, alwasy a message and always with similiar news "come over when you get home..." LOL...

I wonder where he lived and if his friend ever got his mail?
