Odd 'pit-like' object in egg

I cracked an egg open this morning from one of our backyard chickens and it had the oddest 'pit-like' object in it I have ever seen (see attached pic). The object was hard and about the size of an avocado pit. All of the hens appear to be healthy. Any ideas what would cause something like this and what it may be?
