I'm not sure this is the right forum for this......but here goes.

I've noticed that only my black Australorp hens always have white poo all over their butt feathers all the time. None of the other breeds do. What gives?
Thanks.

I've noticed that my black cochin has been having white poo on her but. She can't be under the roost either. Maybe because the feathers are so black and fluffy, the poo is just more easily seen? If my others have some poo on their buts, I wouldn't really see it.

I have white ,buff and auburn colored chickens...all have very fluffy butts with no poo on them. My EE does get grits stuck in her muffs if I give it to her before it cools a little.

Thanks everyone.
No, its not mites. I've looked closely at the other breeds and they don't consistently have this poo on them.
Must have something to do with how they process their food, compared to the others. ?? No, they aren't low on the pecking order. Maybe its just a congenital thing with these 3. Doesn't seem to bother them. They're almost 8 years old now.
Thanks for your input.

Maybe she just needs a small bath and a trimming on her butt feathers. A lot of people on here have to do that for their Australorps and Orpingtons, since they're so fluffy on their behinds.

Don't worry, a little grooming and she'll be her cute fluffy self again.

All my critters (dogs and chickens) have super fluffy butts that pick up "skid marks." It shows up worst on the two black chickens, but they all get them.

So I just periodically scoop up the chickens and give them a trim with scissors--hardly more than 1/4". The BA had a big dingleberry the other day that a quick clip corrected.

The dog groomer routinely does a shave from anus to nuts for the dogs.
