So this may be a story about a duck not a chicken, but I think it's an interesting story nonetheless.
About two months ago on May the 11th my bus let me off at school. There's a dumpster right outside and when I looked over there was something white on the ground. When a picked it up it was a little duck egg by it's self, no mother or nest anywhere. I was about to throw it away when I felt something inside move and figured it would hatch in a few days. I had just raised my chicks so I had everything to care for it so I took it into school with me. During my first class I noticed a crack in the shell and later that day my little Odette hatched during math class in my hand. And it was love at first sight!

He's been my little doll ever since and I've been caring for him for the moment he hatched. And he grew so fast! He's been nothing but a spoiled joy he even gets to come into the house with me!

We named him before we knew what gender he was and we all thought that he was a girl so we name him Odette after the princess from Swan Lake. It turns out he is a boy but he comes to the name Odette so we won't be changing it. I've also learned that he's very photogenic.

Yesterday we had an incident though. Every morning I let the duck and chickens out to into there run and I bring Odette out into the yard for an hour to play before I leave for school. Since we got him from the wild we thought it would be best if we didn't clip his wings so we didn't He's just started flying so he's learned how to fly out of the run when called. He's done this a few times and only seems to when I'm outside with him. Yesterday morning he started getting excited like he wanted to fly out so I called him out. Normally he flies in a loop and lands but he got to high to land and flew to far for me to see him and he got lost. We searched for him for hours but couldn't find him. It was the worst feeling ever, it felt like I had just lost a child. We posted pics on Facebook and told people to keep and eye out for him. Today we were coming home from helping my brother move into his dorm and a woman in our neighborhood messaged my mother saying there was a young duck in her yard that looked confused and tired. We went over and there was my baby happy to see me.

We brought him home and the first thing he did was sit in his baby pool and drink water for about ten minutes then he spent the next thirty or so cleaning himself. He was so tired and thirsty that before he was in his pool I cleaned it and he was trying to drink water from the grass when I poured it out! After getting some food and water in him, he decided it was time for a very long nap so I put him up in his coop so the chickens couldn't bother him. After about an hour I went to let him out to forge but he didn't want to come out of his coop!

Even though we really didn't want to we clipped his wing just to make sure he could fly off and get himself hurt. We're thankful he didn't land in a yard with a dog. So that's Odette's story up until now and I'm sure there's going to be a lot more adventure down the road. No matter want happens he's always going to be my little baby.
