I put together this reference page to help identify the colors of my assorted oegbs that I got from Ideal last week. I can't attach it as a document but here are pics of each page. The pictures come from Ideal's website.

Then that helps, none of my chicks were that light. They were all pretty dark and similar to one another with very slight variations of warmer brown and cooler brown on the heads. I picked them for looking more developed at about 5-6 day old chicks, hoping they might be girls since boys are supposed to develop slower.

Something else to look at (which I am going to do) is the breed videos that cackle hatchery has. I also found a few other hatcheries that have them. Just go on youtube and search for the color + breed and then hopefully you'll find videos. the differences can be so subtle. Right now I don't know the difference between my spangled and my female creles lol but I know I have those two colors since I specifically ordered them. My other 25 were an assortment.

If there’s anything I want to time travel to I’d be back when Ideal had all those varieties of OEGB and those gorgeous drawings which I think were made by Diane Jacky. Sadly I think I’ve only seen a few pictures of her and Edwin Megargee’s illustrations on McMurray hatchery’s website. I know it costs more but it was a combination of those drawings and the time that my friend brought a barred feather to art class that got me interested in poultry. It’s probably due to some people saying they prefer real pictures which I agree is great but I wish they could have both.
