Tobias shut the cage door. "Watch him." He nodded to Eclipse as he slowly backed towards Sol, grabbing his bag through the thick bars. He pulled the work phone out, scrolling through the contacts.Eclipse wasn't sure what to do. The situation only seemed to be escalating more, and whatever variables led to this sudden turn of events was way over her head. The chat device had obviously been important, and the "guns" seemed to be more dangerous to humans than she had previously thought. She still couldn't tell if the other dragon was a Leafwing or a Rainwing, though judging by what this new human had said, potentially both? Apparently, other humans couldn't just walk into Tobias' lot, which was both comforting and disturbing. Comforting in the sense that no random human could come in and stare and point and prod at her, disturbing to think how this one somehow had gotten in when he wasn't supposed to. She watched Tobias order the two into Shrike's cage and then slowly turned her head back toward the door.
It was wide open.
She glanced back at Tobias, and then again to the door almost afraid that if she blinked it would go away. She knew she could probably just leave. Not exactly that simple, but Tobias might not have enough time to react and stop her. He was preoccupied with the strange newcomers, but his gun was already drawn. There was no saying she could get out without a shot or two if Tobias even had the nerve to fire at her. And even if she did get out--then what? She had no idea where she was or which way was out. Out of the building and then out of the Scorpion Den. The humans would be pursuing her the whole way and eventually, the hunters would be alert to her escape as well. She couldn't fly and she would be exposed either way--in the sky or in the streets.
She glanced over her shoulder at Sol guiltily. He had risked so much to bring her here to Tobias. If she managed to escape this way anyway, it would still be thanks to him. What would he say if he woke up and she was gone? What would either of them say--Tobias and Sol-- if she didn't? If she couldn't escape and ended up back here in the end? Break the human's trust and ignore Sol's sacrifice, possibly in vain? Or if she died trying?
But what if this is my only chance? She thought, staring at the doorway again.
These thoughts warred in her head like a storm as she slowly sat back down on the floor and curled her tail tightly around her talons, her eyes locked on the open door.
She didn't move.
A moment later, the phone was dialing. He paced beside Sol's cage, running his free hand across the bars.
Roe picked up.
And it was loud.
"Hey. Shoot, you good?"
"August- yes. We are having difficulties in the arena." Roe panted, loud shouting in the background.
"Goodness, you need help?
"It will be fine."
"Maybe this isn't a good time.."
"Perhaps..." Roe shouted something, then returned to their conversation, "It is okay. We are safe. What did you need?"
The loud noises had suddenly died down, Roe's heavy breathing replacing the shouts.
"Um... Can you.. come here? To the lot? I... need your opinion."
"Yes, yes." Roe answered immediately. "Yes, I will be there."
"Thanks."
"Of course. Good-bye."
She hung up, and Tobias sighed heavily, walking over to Nic and the dragon.
