Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

The ground whizzed by Austin as he made his way towards the oasis. The nightwing under him was very well-trained and took orders very well. Better than how my previous dragon took orders, he thought. He flew closer to the oasis and then veered slightly to the right and continued straight until he saw a patrol group and a very fancy looking limo. The limo was different though. It was built for rough terrain like the desert with its large tires and several extra sets of wheels. Around them drove 4 jeeps, each with 4 people inside. Not a very strong defensive line, he scoffed. They slowed down to a stop as a couple of them pointed towards him in the sky. He pulled the reins on the dragon and the nightwing folded its wings and leaned into a downward dive until finally spreading the wings back out and letting the wind catch them and land them safely on the ground. Austin relished the wind in his face as they dove. Ah, to fly. He slid off of his nightwing and landed gracefully, the sand crunching underneath him. He walked up to the limo/jeep and the driver got out of his side. He looked around and noticed the entire group had stopped and had guns either pointed at him or at the ready to.
He held up a hand towards them, "Don't be alarmed by me. My name is Austin and I am here to help you. The people you are protecting sent for someone from the Terrifying Viper Pit of Dragons. I'm the person they sent to help you." Some of the others turned towards the nightwing and raised their weapons again.
Austin chuckled slightly, they don't know what they're doing. "Don't be alarmed. This is just my dragon that I rented to fly over here. It will be a very strong asset if we have to defend ourselves from trouble."
A voice broke through the whisperings of the soldiers. Austin turned his head towards the young voice and saw a young blonde man standing there, probably 20 or 21. Hmm, start em early I guess.
"Ah, yes! It's ok, boys! I requested someone like this. Lower your weapons." He walked up to Austin and held out a hand in friendly greeting.
Ugh, I have to shake this guy's hand too? No, remember, Austin. Act the part. He stuck out his hand in return and firmly shook. He forced a kind smile and asked for the man's name.
"Ah, yes! I am Sir Jack Salter." He gestured to a woman stepping out of the limo. She was fairly tall with dark hair and a young face. He guessed about 19 or 20 years old. "This is my fiance, Lady Jasmine Melore." She smiled slightly and sent a nod of greeting in Austin's direction.
He nodded back and smiled at the two of them. "I'm here to guide you the rest of the way to the Viper Pit," he said, the words "Viper Pit" sounding strange coming out of his mouth. Strange how humans and dragons have two different names for the same exact place. He pushed aside the thought and focused on the matter at hand. "So, I will lead you all the rest of the way and fly in front of your group. If that's ok of course?"
The man looked at him and nodded in agreement. "Yes, yes, you're the expert of these lands. Lead the way!"
Austin smiled at his naiveness. "Yes sir."

“Kapok says yes,” Shrike said evenly, “I, on the other hand, and would rather skip the chit-chat an get to the part where we actually escape this place.”
"Can I do anything to help?" Bloodmoon asked. He felt useless, like usual. "Hold on, nobody wants a sick dragon. What if a myterious illness swept around this place. The people would have a doctor come, which could be one of you people. Then you offer to pay them a lower price for their dragon because you want to examine and quartine the illness. "
Roe listened silently, then turned to Tobias. "We are organizing a transport group. We plan to take fifty or more out by the 20th. That gives us two days until jailbreak. We need money to buy those dragons."
Tobias nodded. "K. I'll send Monzy a check."
Roe smiled gratefully. "Thank you, August. Did you want.. Sol to get on that group?"
Tobias glanced at the red dragon, "Yeah. Yeah, sure, but I'll help with the shipment, then. I don't want to leave him."
"Of course. I am afraid we are packing these trucks full. It.. it is very tight, but we need to get them out. If they are willing to make it through the drive, freedom is directly on the other side."
Tobias nodded solemnly. "Yes. I'll help. There's a sale tomorrow night. I'll buy what I can, they can stay here for the night."
Roe sighed with relief, "This is truly wonderful, Tobias. Thank you so very much."
Tobias smiled gently, "Yes, yea. But we're still trying to raise money? Within the next two weeks?"
"Through the arena, yes." Roe answered. "My RainWings are competing in the Team Rally. That should get us do fifty grand, assuming all goes well."
Tobias turned to Shrike, Kapok, and Dred. "Well, then, boyyyys. Up to you, but, I guess they- we could use the help." He shrugged goofily. "Eclipse, you as well. You could be a HUGE help with raising money. But again- up to you."

@Crestcrazy2, @Blue Raptor, @Mary Poopins Love, and @Nicole Taber, let's get through this scene so we can keep moving on. It's getting slow.

Eclipse hesitated. "That was an ancient practice. My tribe was more skilled and educated in the ways of warping before their kingdom collapsed and they were driven from the continent. It was centuries ago, and the teachings and knowledge of warping have been mostly lost to time. I don't even think they called it "warping" that long ago. True, I could probably make keys or lock picks and other weapons, but they will only last for so long."

Tobias nodded slowly. "Yeah... Yea. You down, Eclipse? Dred? Shrike, Kapok? Gimmie your thoughts."

Crest nodded at the king. Of course we'll get your son. That's why you came here in the first place. He heard rustling in another cage and he looked over at the other solarwings cage. She struggled to get up, but eventually managed it. Their eyes met and he saw a question in them. What do we need to do? He wasn't quite sure yet, so he held off on the silent question while he answered the king's question. "Like what, Seawing?"
He looked back at king Helios, "Like, mean and unrespective of dragons. Deliberately torturing a dragon or buying and selling them like they are slaves. Surely they can't all be this way." He turned back towards the other solarwing and gave a reassuring look. Just sit tight...I'll get us out of here. He hoped the silent message was clear for the young solarwing.
What are you doing, Crest! Why are you making promises you can't keep! He got on to himself for being so open and took his gaze from the solarwing and waited for the king.
Helios sighed, “No. No of course not all of them are evil, but most of them yes. I’ve heard of several villages full of humans that are allies of us dragons, especially in the bay of a thousand scales.” He said with a glimmer of hope, smiling a little at the thought.
Roe listened silently, then turned to Tobias. "We are organizing a transport group. We plan to take fifty or more out by the 20th. That gives us two days until jailbreak. We need money to buy those dragons."

Dred was amazed at the idea of Warping, it sounded so incredible to have such power. He pushed the thoughts down as the conversation picked up, talk of an escape. His stomach knotted, which was an odd feeling for the burly Mudwing. Fear or anxiousness was not something he was used to. But finally after all those years of waiting and wondering what the outside world would be like…what freedom would be like, he might just get a taste of it. “I think…if this could actually work…we better give it a shot.” He said apprehensivly, his voice deep and low even though the group was in a secure area.

King eventually left Phoenix with a kind goodnight and a smile, walking slowly around the towns edge toward the center. The sun was gone now and the lanterns lit the street just enough to walk at night comfortably. His talons clacked along the wooden floors that were installed in the team headquarters as he walked inside, the rest of his team had already headed to bed and he knew he should do the same. His bed lay between Herons and Redwings and he tried not to wake them as he crawled into it. He curled his tail around himself and pulled his wings in close, closing his eyes and sighing. He tried not to think about all the ways the day could’ve gone better, especially the parts with Corvus. Finally sleep took him and he rested, although not that well.

His dream came again of the hatchery. The egg looked so cold and lonely in the room by itself. The cracks and indents in the shell made King sick with guilt. He could hear himself talking in the dream. “Please be ok, lil egg. ….Gosh I’m such an idiot.”
The egg glowed slightly as he approached, wiggling for a moment. He stepped closer and put a talon on the egg, feeling the tiny *thump thump thump* of a heartbeat and the warmth of a dragonet inside. As his talons left the eggs surface, it seemed to glow ever so brightly, the light flooding his dream and causing him to wake.

Maybe I should check on the egg….” He thought groggily.

The cool night air cleared Kings head fairly quickly, his crest raised to catch the breeze as he slowly walked down the village street. Dim orange hanging lanterns lit his path as he neared the hatchery, his steps becoming slower as he did so. “This is stupid. it’s the middle of the night King, why do you make yourself do this. That egg better be ok…”
King opened the door gently, the creaking sounding louder then possible in the dead of night. Every step made the wooden floor shriek under his weight and suddenly everything seemed to be louder then normal.

He saw the egg on the other side of the glass wall, feeling the guilt well up inside him again. It pulsed with light as he neared, as if his dream was becoming a reality.
King swallowed hard, not afraid, but worried. He’d seen eggs hatch before, normally it was just like you’d imagine. But this egg was different, blueish white light seemed to pour from the indents and cracks in the egg, new cracks began to emerge along with them spilling more silvery light everywhere. He opened the door and strode slowly into the room, every step closer to the egg resulted in a pulse of light.
Could it be…?
The egg rocked lightly, a piece of its shell dislodging slightly.
“Weird…no explosion of ligh- ”
The room erupted in a wave of almost blinding silver light, so much so that King had to shield his eyes with his wing quickly. His many years of missions had included more bombs and grenades then he could count, the sudden explosion of light immediately bringing back countless memories of his conflicts with humans and team members lost to those such missions. The wave of light rippled over his feathers like a splash of water from the lake, it subsided after a moment and King raised his head. His eyes still shocked by the sudden brightness. And there, in the middle of the nest, filled with pieces of egg shell with a bright, silvery interior, sat a small dragonet. It was the size of his talon and at first it wasn’t moving, giving King his second heart attack that night. He rushed forwards and then proceeded slowly, cradling the small creature with great care. It finally opened its eyes and looked straight up at king, as if he was an enormous thing too big to comprehend. The dragonet was small and silver colored, with blacks scales dotted down its neck and in other various places. A silver liquid covered several spots of the hatchling, before seeping into its scales in a matter of moments.
Woah….hello lil fella… you’re….you’re a …a Lunarwing.”
He said in amazement, bringing his head close to the dragonet and watching the lil thing in wonder.

~My Character Form~
Name: Wither Rose Freeborn (Rose is what her friends call her and Freeborn could maybe be the last name of her family since she is a completely free dragon in the SD? It would help with legal stuff)
Gender: Female
Age: 31
Tribe: Leafwing/Nightwing
Physical appearance: A very dark polished brown color mixed with lighter tan highlights, making her appear as if she was carved from a huge dark tree. Deep almost black green wing membrane and purple eyes like her Nightwing parent. Black claws and horns and a forked black tongue. Her talons are burned in several spots and have many different colors splashed across them from all her experiments and meddling with acids.
Personality: Friendly and kind, a wonderful dragon to be around……if you’re part of the Rebellion.
She is nice enough if you’re not, she lives in the SD after all. But secretly she’s been working on drugs, potions and and metal corroding acids to help in the escape of the captive SD dragons. She’s strong willed, passionate and maybe a bit stubborn. The hoomans hate her and she doesn’t care, infact it helps her in her choices to stick with the rebellion. She can be rude and disgusted when the thoughts of the dragons trapped in the Maze come to mind, but she pushes them away, knowing she’s doing all she can to help them.
Backstory: (Optional) her parents fell in love after gaining their own freedom. Ashheart, a brave and noble Nightwing who fought his way to freedom met Rosethorn after several months, the two of them falling in love and deciding to start a family. Wither Rose was hatched a year later under the two moons, though she never gained the fabled nightwing powers. Ashhearts lab and Rosethorns adjoined greenhouse was the perfect place to grow up, probably the only nice place to grow up in the SD. One night when she was younger a group of (Anti-Free Dragon) humans came and blew up their apartment while they slept, killing Ashheart and Rosethorn. That’s when Wither Rose added Freeborn to her name, claiming it as her family name in defiance of the humans, who were never even arrested for their crimes. She’s taken to plant science, discovering that even though she didn’t gain moon blessed powers, she had incredibly good Leafspeak. her lab/greenhouse looks more like a jungle then anything, with jars filled with strange bugs and carnivorous plants. She has many pouches filled with insects that could do quite a lot of damage if she used them right. Her techniques of splicing plants together to create new ones along with her Leafspeak are known throughout the SD. She’s dangerous, but not evil.

Two deep purple eyes were leveled with a table, watching a bubbling liquid eat away at a pile of metal chains. “Perfect.” She said, pleased with herself, her voice sounding as if she was older then she actually was. A pair of plants looking like long tendrils started wriggling to life on either side of the table, one reaching out and wiping away the half disintegrated chains while the other soaked up the acid with a old rag stained many different colors. After there work was done the plants returned to their normal state and Rose walked quietly away. Various types of foliage brushed past her, some curling inward into a protective ball or quickly snapping their mouths down on nothingness, but most just happy to let her stroll by and stay as they were.
Hungryyyyy…
Sunlight…happy…sunlight…
Mmmmm dirtttt….

The plants murmured eerily and she did her best to ignore it, she only really liked the flowers voices and even then sometimes it got annoying in her head. She took a deep breath as she passed the plants, entering her real greenhouse. The walkway from the lab to the greenhouse had collected so much dirt and seeds from walking back and forth so constantly that it had practically turned into another garden.
She scanned the plants, looking for a certain parasitic mushroom-like fungus that she needed for a tincture.
Hide, darkness, moist, rot. Hide, darkness, moist, rot. The plant repeated over and over in a lazy low whispery voice.
“There you are.” She said, snipping a bit of fungus away with her talons and returning to the lab.
The lab was old, like, very old, scorch marks spiraled across the walls from the other room. The fire had licked it’s way across the rooms in a matter of moments that night, The night those wicked humans had decided to take her parents fate into their own hands.
Copper pipes ran up and down every wall in the lab and most leaked. Moss had begun to grow in every corner of the apartment and Rose was amazed the floor had held up so long. Rose took a deep breath of the moist air and settled down by her table, getting to work on a tincture to boost adrenaline.
The escapees would need it.

So- could she be partnered in the lab with one of Roe's RainWings? That would be sik. I am so down to read more of her story.
