Wait, which post are you talking about?y'all i brought tears to my own eyes with that, i almost cried abt it ngl, i literally love them so much
Eclipse turned her head slightly to look at Tobias. "Can we at least check the truck yard and see? After we leave Rose's lab of course. But if even one of them is still there, I need to talk to them." She hoped he could see the resolve on her face.
"Dude-" Tobias started, "I really don't think they're in the truck yard anymore." He shook his head, "Besides, I don't want to be seen. If I'm seen out here, and stuff gets messy, I compromise my alibi."
Tobias pulled the cowl of his trenchcoat up higher, reaching for a pair of shades in his coat pocket. "Don't give me crud, I'm definitely not paranoid or anything." He smirked at Eclipse, pushing the green aviators against the bridge of his nose.
"K, where are we going? How far out is your place?" He repositioned his hat, glancing at Rose.
Eclipse gave Tobias an exasperated snort and shook her head. "You're not even going to try," she muttered under her breath. "Can't you at least ask around and find out where they are? I'm sure word will have spread by now. Whoever ended up with the other Lunarwing or the King of the Solarwings? People will hear about it. Don't you dare tell me you could get in trouble for simply asking."
“Coming up on the right, do we have a truck to transport the goods?” She said in a mock, rough Italian accent, barking a laugh and starting up a flight of outside stairs. She never used them, she had wings after all, but with company she wanted to attract as little attention as possible."I don't ask stuff." Tobias announced in a bored tone. "Look, what's the harm in waiting til tonight? Shoot, I'll just look up the recent sales, if it would appease your wishes, pal." He reached for his phone, his mind wandering back to Sol and the crew back in the lot. He stole another look at Eclipse. "It's fine." Tobias sighed, his tone lightening as he scrolled through recent sales, hoping they would be recent enough that he wouldn't have to specify dragon type. "I'll find out where they went."
Sand flew into Helios’s eyes and he roared in pain, a burning sensation making them instantly tear up, he blinked furiously, reminding himself that Crest had no choice. He had to make it look real. His firey scales died down, except the inside of his wings, as he clawed at his eyes. finally the blurred world started to appear normal again and he took that chance to open his huge wings until his shoulder blades almost touched and then slam them together infront of him in one giant motion, causing a wave of scorching heat and sand to engulf the Seawing, but aiming just high enough that he wouldn’t be burned, at least not too bad. The blast of heat instead rose into the crowd and he was delighted to hear a few panicked screams as the stands were enveloped by the sand and heat. Helios jumped into the air and flew along the wall until he was right above the Seawing, who had lost sight of him in the sandstorm. He extended his talons and slammed them into Crests side, knocking him over and landing in front of him with his head low. “I’m sorry soldier, but trust me, I can take a beatin. Keep makin it look real.” He whispered determinedly. The solarwing king slid across the floor and let out a roar that dwarfed his. The solarwing king truly is a powerful dragon, Crest thought as he tensed for the attack. He saw the sand kick up behind the powerful dragon as he leapt and held his breath, not quite sure yet what to do. Then the powerful wings of the solarwing opened and slowed the attack slightly. Crest's instincts kicked in and he rolled to his right, the king's claws barely missing him. The sand ground against his scales as his back slid along the ground and out of the way of Helios. Crest could feel the heat emanating off of the dragon. It was like the pain still came even though Crest avoided touching the skin. His scales had dried out in the area closest to the flaming dragon, but Crest ignored the feeling. He focused on making the maneuver look convincing.
Using his momentum, Crest rolled back onto his feet and threw his wings open. Hovering over the ground, he brought his tail around and threw a cloud of sand into the king's face. I'm sorry, you're highness.... he thought.
Austin watched as the dragons conversed, his mind automatically translating. Blackout moved from guarding him towards the icy dragon but not before taking another moment to whack Austin with his tail. Just like a child....so petty. No wonder you couldn't act civilized without our influence. Blackout placed a claw comfortingly on the ice dragon's shoulder, whispered something to the icewing, and answered the question that Austin hadn't spoken. "We care. No matter the life, we care."
He'd expected some sort of snarky comment from the dragon, but the tone of his voice almost seemed...sincere. Never....they could never be. But....could they? No! They could never be! They're monsters. He pushed the kind thoughts that he'd had about the dragons out of his mind and instead fixed the black dragon with a stare and raised his eyebrow questioningly. He began to think over his options. He could try to run, but the dragons would catch him too quickly, and they would probably kill him on the spot this time. He couldn't fight his way out with no weapons, but maybe.....
His gaze drifted towards the young girl who was excitedly speaking to the dragon who had tried to help her in the first place. He couldn't make out what she was saying, but he could tell by her excited tones that she was passionate about what she was saying. Very excited...I wonder if she even knows what these creatures can do.
He walked towards her, determined to get her on his side. Part of him was also genuinely curious to why she was hanging around dragons. Glancing quickly to the other dragons, he held up his hands in a peaceful manner. He didn't plan on doing anything.
Yet. The dragons seemed to be in their own conversation so Austin continued.
As he got closer, he noticed more of her features. Her long black hair was a mess, but was still almost pretty. Her face was strong with a gentle touch. But, he almost gasped at her eyes. They were so blue. Beautifully and strikingly blue. And, they were almost...dragon-like. How can a human have such dragon-like eyes? They were innocent and sweet. He almost felt bad for planning on using her to escape, but he pushed it away realizing that this was his only chance.
He approached her and smiled, "I see you're feeling better." He hoped he wasn't forcing his kind tone.
A confused and skeptical look swept across her face, but it was quickly replaced by her excitement , "Yes, yes actually I am! A lot better!" The glow in her eyes was contagious and Austin started to smile a genuine smile.
He laughed a little and took a step closer to her, but one look at the dragons made him halt in his tracks. Bad idea. He instead looked back at the girl and introduced himself, "My name is Austin. May I ask yours?"
Blackout watched as Austin stepped closer to Alyssia, and let out a quiet but clear growl. He didn't trust Austin much. Actually, not at all.Alyssia had been staring at the icy dragon, but could see it was making him uncomfortable, so she averted her gaze. He healed me, what's the big deal! she thought as she looked at everyone around her still staring at him. She shrugged and walked over to Apple, her excitement almost bubbling over. "Apple! Look!" she blushed and hastily corrected herself. "I mean! Feel, sorry!" She had Apple run her scaly hands across the before wounded arm and proceeded to tell her how strong she felt now. Bamboo's dragonic voice seemed to be saying something important to Apple and Alyssia ceased trying to talk to Apple. They all seemed so serious at this point. Why! Be happy! Whitestar healed me!
She heard a mature voice from behind her speak, not dragon, but English. She spun around to see the hunter making his way towards her. Her first instinct was to run from him, but he seemed friendly in his approach. Maybe he's not all that bad after all. With that she started to feel bad about capturing him. They started talking and Alyssia noticed his messy blonde hair and dusty outfit. She examined his strong face and eventually came to his eyes. She looked deeply into them. You can almost see someone's soul from their eyes.... she recalled the wisdom that sat on her refrigerator at home. Her parents told her that her brother had said when he was young. They thought it was cute and put it on the fridge, but Alyssia had cherished it in her heart and had used it to try and peer into people's heart and soul.
She held eye contact with the young hunter and noticed the hazel eyes. The greenish/gray rims faded into a more stony gray until that faded into a darker brown which surrounded the pupil. They were almost mesmerizing and she tried to make out emotions. She could see hurt, but also deception and....something else. Loss? Lack of love? She was taken from her thoughts by his inquiry of her being ok. She responded emphatically and they began talking. She noticed his glance over at the dragons and she looked too, genuinely curious to what they would do.
"My name is Austin. May I ask yours?" his firm voice asked.
Alyssia smiled widely, "Yes of course! I'm Alyssia. Alyssia Evaw." She saw his smile and she glowed with success. Yes! He trusts me! And, he's not all that mean. Maybe he'll even choose to help us.
Then came his next question. "Alyssia," he spoke smoothly, "why do you stay around these dragons? I mean, obviously, they're not trying to kill you, so why don't you just leave them?"
She paused and thought about her answer for a moment. Do I tell him about the plan? Do I tell him about trying to break out other dragons from the Scorpion Den? She thought more about it. The real meaning behind what he'd said finally kicking in. Why don't I leave them? Why do I try to help them? She shook her head a little, getting her mind back on track, but it was immediately diverted again by a slight chill in the breeze that she felt. She could tell Austin felt it too because of the way he shook slightly. She looked back at Whitestar and saw him holding a pendant and giving it to Bamboo. "What on earth?" she said aloud, walking closer to Whitestar and the others, leaving Austin standing there and assuming that the dragons would take care of him if he tried to escape.
Crest watched the king claw the sand out of his eyes and waited, tensed for the next move. Fear began creeping into the seawing's mind as he thought about what the solarwing could do next. No, Crest...you can do this. Just hold on. He watched, heart racing as Helios brought back his wings and snapped them together in his direction. He saw the sand first, but the worst part of it was the heat that followed. The burning feeling engulfed his body and his eyes felt like they were on fire inside his eyelids. He hadn't bee fast enough and the sand and burning air managed to make their way into his eyes. He grabbed his face and clawed at his eyes like the king had just done before. The heat ripped into him and he felt like all of his scales were screaming at him at the same time. They yearned for water. They pleaded with him for water. The lightheaded feeling from before returned and was even stronger than previously. His headache came pounding back and his whole frame felt weak. His muscles felt like giving in, but he forced himself forward.Sand flew into Helios’s eyes and he roared in pain, a burning sensation making them instantly tear up, he blinked furiously, reminding himself that Crest had no choice. Keep makin it look real.” He whispered determinedly.
Bamboo stared in awe as it happened. Apple waited with bated breath, unsure if she wanted to go through with this or not. Of course she wanted to be able to see, but after twenty years of being blind, it was a bit of a scary thought...
What if the world wasn't how Bamboo had always described it?
Bamboo gasped as the wood slowly formed into a sweet metal necklace. He held out a trembling talon, letting the necklace slide from Whitestar's talon to his own.
He looked at Apple.
"Apple..." He began, than stopped and swallowed. His mouth opened and closed, and when he spoke again, his voice sounded husky.
"Apple, do you want to try it?"
Apple stood with her head down and chest rising and falling quickly.
An eternity passed.
And another.
And another.
It was really only seconds but felt like forever until she responded-
She shook her head.
"What?!" Bamboo exclaimed. "App-"
Apple interrupted, still not looking at him.
"No. Please."
Bamboo stared at her incredulously, his scales swirling with so many colors that not even another Rainwing would be able to understand it all.
"Don't get my hopes up." Apple murmured, almost unintelligibly. A tear slipped from her eye, and she shook her head shallowly, stepping back she met a tree and she couldn't back up anymore. Her body began to shake from sobs she bit back with all the restraint she had.
Bamboo slowly stepped towards her, and it seemed that for a moment, he was blind too. Blind to everyone and everything except her.
"Apple."
Her breath slowed slightly. "Bamboo. It won't work."
Bamboo's lungs weren't sure if they were still working. "He's an Animus. It will work, unless you lied and don't trust him."
Apple's eyes closed. "I trust him with Alyssia, but not myself... If it doesn't work-"
Bamboo interrupted her now. "If it doesn't work, nothing changes and life goes on. If it does, your life is changed forever."
"What if I lose the necklace?" She whispered frantically.
"I won't let that happen."
"How can you be sure?"
"Because I'll make sure you never lose that necklace, no matter what. I need you to trust me when I say this; that necklace will be the reason I breathe. I will not let it be lost. I will not let you lose your sight once you've gained it. My purpose will be to keep it with you."
Apple chuckled humorlessly, and sniffed. "I didn't ask for some dramatic oath, dummy." She muttered, and lifted her head slightly.
That was her mistake.
Bamboo jumped forward and with his wings, held her back and slipped the necklace over her head.
Everything froze.
Apple stood stock still, unmoving.
Silence reigned.
And suddenly Apple cried out.
She dropped to the ground, covering her eyes with her wings and sobbing.
Bamboo opened his mouth and tried to speak, but couldn't stop tears from streaming from his eyes and holding back his words. His own emotions threatened to overtake him, but one thought in his head had to be acted upon first.
"Apple- did it-" He stopped as Apple rose from the ground and threw herself at him, wrapping her wings around him and falling on his shoulder. Bamboo hugged her back, but needed to know-
Before his thought fully formed, Apple delivered the most exhilarating words he had ever heard in his life.
"Bamboo.... you're green."
Whitestar started forward in a panic as Apple crumpled to the ground, covering her eyes with a loud cry. He lifted a talon to reach for her but stopped mid-stride, yanking his arm back and stumbling backwards again, away from the two Rainwings out of fear of what he might do. His mind began swirling again like a blizzard, panicked thoughts jolting through his mind and sending an extra chill of fear down his spine with each one.Blackout watched as Austin stepped closer to Alyssia, and let out a quiet but clear growl. He didn't trust Austin much. Actually, not at all.
His attention, however, was pulled towards the others. He wanted desperately to keep an eye on Austin, but he knew Alyssia would alert them if the hunter tried anything he shouldn't.
He turned his gaze to the other dragons in time to see the necklace slipping from Whitestar's to Bamboo's.
He glanced down and saw Alyssia stepping closer to see what was going on with the two Rainwings, leaving Austin standing alone for a moment. Blackout stepped back and to the side slightly, so Austin was just slightly in front of him now. He needed to be able to see him as best as possible for now.
Having been distracted for a moment, Blackout looked up in time to see Bamboo jump forward and slide the band over Apple's head.
Everything froze for a split second.
And then Apple dropped to the forest floor, and Blackout's heart hurt for her. He wanted to jump forward and see what he could do to help, but he knew her brother would be there for her. He watched anxiously as she embraced Bamboo, and waited with breath catching in his throat.
He heard her say something, and saw Bamboo's face crumple as he wrapped his wings over Apple and begin crying into her shoulder as well.
Blackout watched with mounting concern for a moment, before realizing the tears were happy and relieved ones.
He blinked quickly, registering that his own eyes were slightly misty too.
A blind dragon could now see. Who would've thought? He grinned widely, resisting the urge to hop up and down like a dragonet.
He was so happy for the other two.
He smiled happily at them, knowing that tho he had only just met them, he was overjoyed for them. For a moment, everything felt alright and okay, like nothing could be wrong;
.......Even though many things were.
"I'll get the truck." Tobias motioned to Rose, meeting Eclipse' gaze, "We'll finish checking sales after we get into The Den. Go with Rose and gather stuff, be right back." He turned on his heel quite suddenly, and jogged towards the Silverado.“Coming up on the right, do we have a truck to transport the goods?” She said in a mock, rough Italian accent, barking a laugh and starting up a flight of outside stairs. She never used them, she had wings after all, but with company she wanted to attract as little attention as possible.
