"Honestly, I would have never guessed Sol was a prince any other way. He certainly doesn't act like royalty." She recalled their conversation in the lot the day before, Sol flopped over undignified upsidedown on the floor. "If it weren't for how much he looks like his father, I might've never known." She glanced at Tobias and gave him a light nudge with her wing.
"I think Helios is going to like you. You helped his son survive this place and you are decent for a human. Besides, he's got a big heart. Most other royals are too infatuated with themselves to look past differences in other tribes, let alone different species. He'll understand, you'll see."

Tobias smiled, soaking up every encouraging word. "Sol.. really put those 'Prince' days behind him. I mean, like, really. After I bought him, it took a week to just remember his own name." Tobias grimaced, shoving his hat back over his hair. "I'm not nervous about Helios. Just-.. gosh, I hope Sol's alright. The moment I saw Helios, I thought.. I-..well." Tobias scoffed slightly, a weak smile on his lips. "I thought he was Sol."

"Hey. Hey!" Owens waved Bloodmoon back. "Easy, there, killer."
Fracture noticed Bloodmoon stiffen at her words. "Ellie. Perhaps you should focus on yourrself?" She slowly moved across the lot, towards the girl, also reaching for her gun. "We have the time to spend tranquilizing them. Move slow-"
Owens suddenly stumbled back again, venom hissing on the floor beneath her. "What the fffffhlip!"
Fracture pulled the trigger on the handgun, watching as the red dart whistled through the air, catching on an invisible figure. A loud scraping sound echoed through the lot as the invisible dragon moved quickly, and both Fracture and Owens instinctively moved to the side. Something thudded against the wall, and the dragon could be seen for but a moment, it's scales blindingly white before vanishing again.
Fracture took a sharp breath. For the second the dragon was visible, the eyes could only process so much, but it was clear that this dragon no longer had its wings, and that was an unsettling, quite sickening thought.
"Hey, hey, hey," Owens rushed towards the dragon as it blinked in and out of sight once again. "You're okay, you're okay. Easy.. easy."
"Owens, stay back!" Fracture snapped as the air around her shifted, and she felt a light breeze, the other transparent dragon's talons strangely silent as it careened towards the girl.

Eclipse nodded slowly in understanding. "Don't worry, we'll be out of this place before you know it. Sol is probably already waiting for you at the checkpoint," she paused, a startling thought suddenly unearthing itself in her mind. She turned to look directly at Tobias. "You are leaving the Scorpion Den, right?" She said, keeping her voice low so only the human could hear it.

Tobias snorted, "Oh, gosh, I sure hope so." He grinned cooly, turning to the left as they reached the end of the hall. He glanced back at the other dragons, motioning for them to keep coming. "Hay, hep- SandWing!" The dull yellow dragon's head snapped up from where he stood, looking a bit out of it. "Keep up, pal. We need to hurry."

Eclipse smiled, stifling a laugh. Tobias had such an entertaining personality sometimes. She had never even imagined that a human could act and speak in such a diverse way, almost like a dragon. In fact, almost all of the humans she'd met personally in the Den seemed to have actual personalities. Sometimes, she almost forgot how different they all were.
She remembered Tobias' question from her first day in the lot. Could humans and dragons exist together without fighting?
It was true, in the Scorpion Den, the humans ruled and they dominated the dragons.
Outside though, any group of humans could be devastated by a single dragon.
But Tobias and others in the Den seemed to have found ways to live with certain dragons as equals, and Crest had mentioned something about a more mutual interaction in the Kingdom of The Sea. So it wasn't impossible. Then why did almost no one try to make it anything but a centuries-old war?
Maybe they were just too different. Humans were afraid of dragons, and Tobias had hardly proven otherwise. Eclipse had begun to trust him up until the point she had removed her collar. From then on, it seemed she was always on eggshells around the human. Their fear had led them to a point where they felt the need to dominate dragons, and for centuries it had trickled through the generations into an embedded hatred of them. So most dragons simply avoided them. But what would happen if they finally got fed up with it? What if the dragons finally turned full force on the humans, like they had millennial before during The Scorching? If things didn't turn around, history would inevitably repeat itself, and Eclipse shuddered at the thought of how much bloodshed such a catastrophic event would cause.
"You're right," She finally muttered, somewhat spontaneously. "There has to be some sort of compromise. We can't go on fighting each other like this." She glanced around at the dragons following them through the Maze.
