A chill ran down Austin's back as he saw Whitestar concentrate hard and then heard the click of a lock.
I have to stop forgetting that this dragon has magic.
He pretended to fiddle with the lock with something in his hand and then turned the knob. The door opened and light flooded the dark room behind the door. He entered and left it open for another second to allow Whitestar to enter then he closed the door behind him.
The room was fairly large with empty walls except for one bookshelf and along the wall opposite them were large windows that extended from the floor and up. On the bookshelves were several sections of files and compared to the empty space in the rest of the room, the amount of space taken up by the files was extremely small. Austin made his way over to the files and muttered backwards, "I was gonna say just break the door down but unlocking it with magic works too."
He looked at the files and grabbed one. The date was recent so he opened it and looked inside. On the top was a code: "Dragon V56X34NH2". Below that read: "Common name: Eclipse."
"Whitestar, I think I found her file." He closed it and put it under his arm as he grabbed another file right next to it. It had the same date as Eclipse's file and he read the common name. "Neoma".
"I'm assuming this one is the dragon Blackout is trying to find." He closed the file and paused as he heard voices outside the door. He spun around towards the door and slid both files into his shirt. His eyes darted back and forth looking for a way out. He couldn't find one.
They were trapped. The door burst open and soldiers came flooding in, guns in hand and pointed at Austin, but he'd also drawn the gun on his hip. He had to use everything in him to calm his now racing heart.
"Hands up!" one of the guards barked. "Hands up or we'll shoot." Austin kept his gun pointed at the leader, and instead he took a step back towards the windows. He couldn't figure a way out of this, but he could stall for time. Knowing Whitestar was probably near them, he decided to try and send a message to him. "So, how many are there of you. 5? 10?"
"Too many for you to take out and get out of here alive. We've called in backup as well, so good luck trying to fight your way out, intruder," the guard sneered.
Austin took another small step back towards the window. He hated to do it, but he didn't think he had a choice. He took a glance back and then back towards the guards. "And, how far up are we?"
"Stop asking questions! Surrender now!"
Austin looked around one more time and hoped Whitestar was catching his drift. One more step back.
"We're warning you!"
Austin spun and pulled the trigger and the sound of glass shattering filled the air. Then he spun and started firing his gun at them. Sound of guns firing sounded behind him as he leapt out the window. Pain ignited in his right shoulder and he spun out of control falling. One thought filled his mind.
This is what I get for being helpful.
