We are just gonna say the largest moon--Imperial--is the one that's full and the one Eclipse bases her calendar on lol. The other two are crescent.OH FIDDLESTICKS--I FORGOT THERE ARE THREE FREAKING MOONS IN PYRRHIA

Neoma woke when the largest moon was beginning to sink from it's highest perch. The land around her was silent, and somehow seemed busy and still at the same time. It was the knowledge that she couldn't be alone that really made her imagine moving shadows. She stood slowly, shaking the snow from her back. She grinned to herself, remembering her happiness from earlier.*A few hours later*
(BeautifulThe air had cooled significantly since the sun had set. The stars around the horizon shone brightly, while the ones closer to the nearly full moon dimmed greatly. Imperial was at its peak--turning what was once golden sand into an ocean of silver grain. Eclipse allowed a long lazy loop in the air, feeling the wind twine around her wings and spines like a playful stream. Using the momentum, she turned upwards straight toward the giant moon and stalled. For a moment, everything was still and she was just floating. Nothing moved and the chattering of the wing died--silence and stillness. Peace.
And then the moment ended and Eclipse left gravity pull her into free fall. She pulled her wings in tight and let the world spiral away. Sand and Sky. Silver and Black. Moon and Earth. All blurred together in one beautiful cosmic flashing of light and darkness before she snapped her wings apart again, feeling the air grab and yank the membrane between her spokes. She dipped and then soared upward again.
She closed her eyes for a moment and just felt.
This was freedom.
It didn't matter what other dragons thought.
Thought that fighting made them free. Escaping. Surviving.
Sure they were "alive", but they weren't "living".
Humans hated the darkness. For reasons, Eclipse could never understand. The darkness, the night, was when the universe showed its face. When the moons swam and the stars played. When the arms of the galaxy could be seen, hugging the world and the cosmos like a giant mother. Here, the celestials ruled. Not the humans. Not the dragons. This was when Eclipse could be freed from the tethers of life. Where the rules and laws of living were replaced by the thought of what you can and can't do. No borders. No Queens. Just the universe in all its glory.
She opened her eyes again and something far below caught her eye. Firelight glittered below in a collection of buildings and stone. A small oasis pool in the center shone Imperials light back weakly--the only sign of nature in the dark compound.
Eclipse narrowed her eyes and then angled her wings back in the direction of the tunnel.
She landed hard on the sand in front of the sleeping Solarwing, hoping that the thump of her talons would be enough to wake her up.
"It's midnight," Eclipse said bluntly. "If that moon-forsaken Nightwing isn't coming to us, we're going to him." She turned sharply and took several paces from the Solarwing. Eclipse spread her wings and twisted her neck around to look at Sunspot.(Beautiful)
Sunspot woke up with a start, hissing defensively. She saw that it was Eclipse and coughed, flattening her crest.
“Don’t surprise me like that,” she hissed, her tail scattering sand.
Sunspot got to her feet, grumbling. “Lead the way, boss” she said sarcastically, shaking sand off her wings."It's midnight," Eclipse said bluntly. "Let's go."
(That last part felt so good to write. I always forget how much I actually love the night sky lol)
Eclipse ignored her tone and launched herself into the air. Behind her, she heard Sunspot do the same, and she angled her wings in the direction of the Scorpion Den. Once again the sensation of the moonlight on her back soothed her anxiety. And she closed her eyes again, taking a deep breath of the cool desert air.Sunspot got to her feet, grumbling. “Lead the way, boss” she said sarcastically, shaking sand off her wings.
Sunspot flew beside the LunarWing, squinting in the dark. She was never up past dark because her eyesight was adapted for bright daylight, and her night vision was horrible. The moonlight helped though.Eclipse ignored her tone and launched herself into the air. Behind her, she heard Sunspot do the same, and she angled her wings in the direction of the Scorpion Den.
