Tobias stood, leaning against the bars of the CloudWings cage, prepared to leap back at any moment. "What is your name? I imagine you do not care, but my name is August. They call me by my last name, though- Tobias." He spoke in Dragon, though he had to say 'imagine' in English, not having learned this word yet. "Do you have a name, bud?" He pulled another piece of jerky from his pocket, tossing it into the cage.
“Shrike.” The CloudWing said it in Dragon, not like he’d respond to the English version of his name anyway. He sighed and stood up, ignoring the jerky as he turned towards Tobias. “Well, you’re not gonna leave me alone, are ya? What happened to your fur? You get bird poop in it and decide ta smear it in rather than wash it out? What do ya want with us anyway? Lemmie guess, it was some sorta bundle and you got it for the big guys. Tsch.” He turned his head away for a moment, not even sure if the guy could understand everything he was saying anyway. “We’ll do me a favor an dont pit me against that nut case SolarWing, huh?”

What the... humans can actually talk?! Eclipse's eyes widened at the little creature, but before she could react, Helios lept into the air and then barked a warning at the rest of them.
Eclipse jolted, her head snapping up in the direction Helios was looking. Sure enough, as she lept up and began climbing into the air, she could see the black shapes pounding toward them. Nearly a dozen if she had to guess, all from the direction of the Scorpion Den. Stars above, how did I not see them? Her mind whirled as she tried to control her panic. There was no way they could fight them all. Neoma could barely take on one dragon, and Sunspot had already proven she couldn't handle so many Nightwings at once. Eclipse didn't know how well Helios could fight, but he was older and slower than the other three. Eclipse could fight maybe three, but she was better if she had the element of surprise. She was an assassin, not a super warrior. There was no way they could fight their way out. They would have to run. But where? They couldn't go back to the tunnel. It was too far, and at the angle they would need to fly, the Nightwings would intercept them. They could head in the direction of the Ice Kingdom, but the terrain would quickly turn to rock and then ice. If the Nightwings didn't give up their chase by then, they would have to turn again toward the coast to avoid freezing to death. And they couldn't fly that way forever. They would be exhausted by the time they reached the shore, and without time to stop and rest, they would be forced overseas. Even if the Nightwings didn't follow them all the way out there, they would eventually be too tired to fly, and one by one, they would drop from exhaustion. There were hardly any forests near the Ice Kingdom to hide in. The only direction they could fly was toward the Sky Kingdom. But that was the opposite direction Eclipse needed to go. There was no way they could fly that far out and still have time and energy to retrace all the way back and then continue on to the ocean. But what choice did she have?
I'm so sorry, she thought miserably, her talon closing over the onyx on her neckband, before she turned sharply to look at the others, regaining her composure.
"We can't out fly them if we continue west," she said quickly, turning toward the others. "We will have to head further inland, toward the mountains. There is more room to fly and hide and the climate is more agreeable. But we have to leave now." She shot a glance over her shoulder at the approaching patrol, now close enough to make out the shape of the Nightwings better. Eclipse cocked her head down at the human still standing on the dune, before sheathing her dagger and swooping down to snatch the scavenger up in her claws. The creature let out a shriek as she did, but Eclipse ignored it, turning to fly in the direction of the Sky Kingdom with once last sullen glance back toward the western horizon.

Helios was immediately thrown into action, Nightwings raining from the sky and chaos beginning to ensue. Several nightwings came after him, their claws outstretched and open, ready to tear him to shreds. He tucked in his wings and dove out of their reach, looping behind them and engulfing them in a cloud of steady flames. As he did this a nightwing crashed into him from behind, knocking him out of the sky and into the dunes below. The two dragons wrestled until they were free of each other, facing each other now and ready for ground tactics. Helios flung his wing out, the razor tips of it slicing open his opponent’s foreleg. Helios was more then double the size of the younger nightwing assassin and knew that the little black dragon had no chance. He leapt on top of him, pinning the dragons wings under his talons. “Why do you serve them?! You could go free anytime you want, but still you come crawling back to your “masters”.” He spat, glaring at the Nightwing with enough rage to burn a forest to ashes. The nightwing looked terrified for a few long seconds, but he suddenly had a realization in his eyes. “Please man, l-let me go….I-I promise I won’t do this anymore!” He frantically exclaimed.
Helios arched his brow, wondering if it was all a show, but the nightwing actually seemed like he was genuinely sorry and repented. “Kill him helios, it’s a facade, a lie!” He told himself, but maybe it wasn’t. Maybe there was hope.
“Go, run to the far corners of the continent.” He shouted, and the young nightwing smiled a real and grateful smile. But as he turned, a much larger nightwing, Most definitely the group leader, landed infront of him. “No no, DeathSeeker. You don’t run away from your masters! Don’t you know what happns?!” He said in a thick, deep and hateful voice. He brought his tail around and a shiny piece of metal reflected off the end. A makeshift Sandwing barb. Quickly he plunged it into DeathSeekers heart, the small dragon gave a short agonized moan and fell over dead.
Helios was shocked at the brutality of the nightwings toward their own tribe, something was truly twisted in this older dragons head. He conjured up a burst of flames and surrounded the Nightwing leader in them.

"Not against him-" Tobias explained, giving the CloudWing an apologetic look as he did his best to translate the Dragon in his head, "no, no, you won't be against him."
Tobias smacked the cage bars, pushing himself off the welded steel. He turned to face all three dragons.
"Listen, fellas, I am not your 'owner.' I am not your master, I am not necessarily in charge of your daily life- though I am responsible for you. We are a team. If you'll trust me, I'll trust you. If you want freedom from these cages, I'll give it to you. But- guys, trust ." Tobias held up his hand, leaving hardly any space between his forefinger and thumb, "This much trust- grants you so. Much." He tore a hand through his disheveled hair, then shoved his hands into his black trench coat pockets.
"Up to you, really. If you don't want to try it out, then I'll sell you. No telling who you'll get stuck with. But- it's your choice."
Tobias paced back towards the CloudWing, leaning back on the cage, his boots echoing loudly with every step. "Whaddya say, boss?" He arched his brow, motioning to the massive, empty lot. "You want out?"

YESSSSSS, finally someone else gettin' involved. Just don't kill the Nightwing leader yet, that's Eclipse's obligation

It was difficult for Shrike to catch on to Tobias’s message, especially since he couldn’t understand ‘trust,’ but it sounded like he was offering something. “Yes.” He said in English, then back to dragon. “Sure, get me outta here, just don’t expect me ta trust anything you Humans do.” He stood at the front of the cage, wondering if he’d understood right and thinking he was also crazy for imagining a scavenger to want to let him free at all.

Tobias hesitated. The CloudWing- Shrike- seemed to have agreed very quickly.
Three long strides, and he had reached the cage door.
Tobias fumbled for the key in his pocket, jamming it into the lock and punching the code in the door.
He kept his left hand deep in his pocket, his fingers closing around a small tranq handgun.
His heavy trench coat swayed as Tobias took a few steps back, pushing the door open as he did so.
He watched the dragon carefully, wondering if maybe this was too soon. But.. no, this was the right thing to do. Trust starts right away- not another meaningless night spent in this cage.
"Can I trust you?" Tobias asked quietly, every muscle tense as he repositioned his hold on the gun. He repeated the question, "Can I trust you?"

Shrike tensely stepped out, his feathers lifted as he watched Tobias. “What?” He said, still not knowing what the word the man was trying to say meant. Shrike was sure the guy had some trick up his sleeve if he tried anything by the way he held himself, especially the hand in his coat pocket. “Chill out, big guy.” He said cooly. “What am I gonna do, eh? Just a little guy like me?” Shrike grinned unevenly.

Kapok stood up excitedly, almost completely forgetting his stinging scales. He stuck his snout between the bars and stared at the human pathetically.

Shrike glanced over at the LeafWing, who he’d forgotten in the moment. “That is Kapok,” he told Tobias in English; then in Dragon, “he says he want out too.”

Tobias smiled, kindly. "Yes, I'm sure you do,"
He backed slowly away from Shrike, his eyes hardly leaving the dragon as he stood beside the LeafWing's cage.
Tobias gently reached out, offering the brown dragon a bit of jerky from his coat pocket.
"Whew, buddy," he sighed, "gosh, you've been torched, pal. I'll take care of that this evening. We'll getchya to heal up nicely, bud."
No way was he going to let the LeafWing out as well. Especially after seeing them fight so well together.
