Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

(Ight, I'm skipping ahead.)

Tobias stared at his bubbling drink, a steady hum of voices echoing through the bar.
He half closed his eyes, feeling exhausted from last night. The man on the barstool beside him straightened, and Tobias blinked back a random daydream, glancing at the man, and then double taking when the man met his gaze.
"Ferrin." Tobias acknowledged, the vocal fry unusually aggressive.
Ferrin nodded, his perfectly mused, grey-streaked hair bouncing slightly as it curled around his chin. "How is the LunarWing?" He asked, his deep, crisply accented voice giving him a rather impressive air.
"Oh, she's fine." Tobias smiled, thinking Ferrin would leave the conversation at that, but he positioned himself towards Tobias, an eye brow cocked sarcastically, "Have you heard the news regarding the excitement in the arena involving the second LunarWing today?" He smiled slyly as Tobias nodded. "We have much to learn about the breed."
"Aye, we certainly do."
Tobias jumped, too tired to have realized Roe was standing beside where he sat- though that would explain why Ferrin had kept glancing past him. "How long you been there?"
Roe shrugged.
"Tobias.. you outbidded me last night. I'm impressed." Ferrin continued.
"Oh- well. Yea. Sorry. It was Sol's idea."
Ferrin's expression did not change, though he did look away, rubbing a hand across his facial hair. "No, no. It's business. I just want to know- what purpose do you have in mind for the dragon?"
Tobias glanced at Roe, who he suddenly realized was wearing a tight red dress, her hair perfectly straightened and tied back- an appearance deeply contrasting to her regular look. Well- maybe this was her regular look.
Ferrin cleared his throat, and Tobias nodded quickly, "I'm sorry. I had a long night with Sol. Keep, like, zoning out. Uhm.. yeah, I think she might compete a bit. It's up to her. I won't force her to do anything. But, you know, she'll have to pay her keep."
"Ah." Ferrin stood, pulling a fine tip from his suit pocket and sliding it toward the patient bartender, his dark eyes glinting as he met Tobias' gaze. "Have a good night." He turned his back on them, straightened his suit, his tall, lanky form silhouetted by the warm lights as he strode off towards the brightly lit casino across the way.
Roe slid into the empty seat, and Tobias dropped his gaze, running a hand through his hair, returning to his previous position, staring at the bubbling glass beside him.
"It is strange seeing how famous people converse."
"I'm famous?" Tobias snorted.
"Perhaps I only meant Ferrin." Roe retorted sarcastically.
Tobias gave a breathy, fake laugh, then relaxed, still staring.
"Are you okay?"
Tobias hesitated to respond, closing his eyes. "I'm doing fine. Gosh, I'm exhausted, though."
Tobias opened his eyes as Roe placed her hand on his. He was tempted to pull back- he didn't know why, but then Roe continued on, "Sol will be fine."
Tobias smiled unhappily, "I know."
Suddenly Roe swore, ducking her head. She stood, her hand slipping off his as she apologized, "I must go."
Tobias glanced around, confused, "What's up?"
"I.. am sorry." Roe winced, risking a glance at Tobias, "I need to get back to the lot."
"I'll go back with you." Tobias said quickly, swinging his legs around and pushing his hat down over his hair as he stood.
Roe gave a silent nod, not meeting his gaze as Tobias hesitantly started towards The Maze entrance. She followed briskly behind him. Tobias shoved his hands in his pockets, pacing confidently ahead, dodging a small group of laughing business men, all of whom he recognized, and they acknowledged him familiarly, one even trying to beckon him in to the conversation. Tobias politely waved off the invite as Roe switched to his right side, seeming to hide behind him. Suspicious.
Tobias pushed his thumb against the censor when they reached the door, motioning Roe through, then following quickly behind her.
"Hey." He started. "What's the problem?"
Roe swallowed shaking her head. "It is my problem. There is no reason to share."
"Yeah, I can help you."
"Perhaps. Perhaps that is what every man ever said."
Tobias bit his lip, not sure what she meant by that. "Look, I don't understand." He paused. "What are you hiding from?"
Roe outwardly winced, her pace slowing.
"You can tell me. I can help." He repeated.
"No. No, you cannot." Roe whispered, her heals clicking with every step.
Tobias hated to press the matter. He sighed.
"I have made terrible decisions, August." Roe said quietly. "I am in more debt than you could ever pay off." She was hesitant to say each word, but the matter had been eating at her mind- she needed to talk to someone about it.
Tobias snorted, "Now, that can't be true-"
"But it is." Roe whispered, a hysterical edge to her voice. "You do not understand. And every day it worsens. I thought I would be out of here by now. But everyday it gets pushed back, and every day I fall deeper and deeper..."
She made a sharp turn, and Tobias followed clumsily, forgetting they were going to her lot. "I could pay it off." He spoke confidently.
"No one, can pay this off."
"Try me."
Roe was silent for a moment, stopping beside her lot door and unlocking it before turning back and meeting his gaze, "I have told you.." she shook her head, "it is too much. Why do you not believe me?"
Tobias rolled his eyes, "Don't turn it on me. I'm trying to help you. I believe you. I want to help." He pulled his hat off, dragging a hand through his hair so that it sat naturally.
Roe took a step back, the lot door opening silently behind her. "I will talk to you later, Tobias."
She slipped into the lot, pushing the door closed with a pained look.
Tobias stood before the closed door for a few moments, too tired to do much but blink.
He sighed, turning back down the hallway and starting toward his lot.

Whitestar nodded at Alyssia as Apple translated her words. He glanced over at Blackout and noticed his expression darken. The Nightwing looked lost in thought, and Whitestar could only figure it was something of the Scorpion Den, or perhaps the recent battle. Maybe both.
"We will fix all of this," he said quietly to Blackout. "Don't let yourself get dragged into the guilt, or you will never find the strength to overcome it and do the right thing. What's passed is passed. We all have our darkside. But you can't let it take over you."
Blackout was lost in his thoughts, concentrating on things in his mind that only he could see.
The Lunarwing was flitting about through his thoughts, and every time he tried to think of anything else he felt guilt for almost killing her, and concern that she was so desperate for death.
It was the fault of the Den. If they hadn't caused such heartache and forced other dragons to have to fight and kill, maybe this particular one wouldn't have been so anxious to die...
He jumped as Whitestar spoke.
He glanced at the Icewing and gave a small but grateful smile. "Thank you." He murmured quietly. "I like to think I have no dark side, but truthfully I do, the same as everyone else. It sometimes takes over my mind and makes it hard to think of anything else except for how terrible I have been or could be; but you're right. I have to remind myself I can be better." His mind was still on the Lunarwing, but it was less guilt now, more concern for her. And the knowledge that he had seen one that was now captured gave him another thought; there were so many inside the Den that needed rescuing.
He would do what it took to get them out.
It was a strange thing to think about the fact that the Den had been his home. It hadn't felt like a welcoming place at all, but it was a place to live. Now he was an outsider.
He shook his head slightly. Whitestar was right. He had to think about other things now.

Eclipse was curled in a loose ball on top of what was once her cage. The rest of the dragons were scattered throughout the lot. Kapok was sprawled half on and half of the large white boxes on the other side of the lot. Bloodmoon had decided to stay, though Eclipse couldn't explain why. Shrike was lying with his neck resting over one of the damaged machines and Sol was still unconscious in his cage. Nic and his Rainwing had left earlier. Eclipse wasn't sure who was actually asleep or not, but all of the dragons had found their own place throughout the large enclosure, like a flock of birds taking up several different perches in a large tree. Her tail hung over the side of the roof of the cage, twitching every now and then as she thought. She watched the mostly unmoving scene through unfocused eyes, her head resting on her talons, slowly drifting closer and closer to sleep.
I don't want to fight any innocent dragons, but I have to, or Tobias can't help get all of them out of here, she was thinking, her mind wandering circles around the conversation from earlier. I wonder if I'm allowed to use my warping. It will be hard to fight Sandwings or Skywing without much other than claws and teeth. Maybe we could fake a fight? But what other dragons are in on the rebellion? Who would listen? Her gaze drifted towards Bloodmoon. He might make quite the performance. But I'm assuming his human doesn't know he's here. They'll come looking for him soon enough. I'm sure Tobias will figure something out.
Her thoughts paused for a moment. Since when did you start relying on that human? He's not that much different from the others. Just because he actually takes care of his dragons. He's obsessed with these fights, and his life revolves around the name and career he's made. Her tail twitched a little harder at the thoughts, and after a moment, she sighed. But he's the closest thing we have to a chance. He and that other human. If we do manage to get out of here, it might just be because of them. I understand why Shrike is cautious about it. I just hope Sol will be on board. This is all he's known for the last four years, and he seems scared to confront his father again. I hope we can pull this off. I hope...
The sound of the lot door opening jolted Eclipse back to full wakefulness. She hadn't even realized she'd drifted off while she thought.
Tobias stepped into the lot looking exhausted and somewhat disappointed. His movements were slow and his eyes stayed unfocused on the floor. He looked lost in thought. Deep thought. Eclipse stood up stiffly and gave a wide yawn, arching her back and stretching her talons out in front of her, kneading the roof of the cage and making the metal whine. She sat down again and draped her tail gracefully over her talons, watching Tobias lazily. "What's the matter with you?" she grunted quietly, half-heartedly trying not to wake the others up. More out of annoyance by their presence than consideration.

Seeing the nod from the others, Alyssia took a quick glance at Apple to make sure she was ready to translate. She took a deep breath, adrenaline beginning to pump through her from the excitement. "Alright! So, from everything that I've been told and what I know about these kinds of places, I've put together a sort of....plan. With the help of these new dragons, I believe we can infiltrate quite easily. So, what we'll do is this. We'll find a guard near the outside of the Scorpion Den, and, with the help of the Apple and Bamboo's camouflage, we could sneak in just enough into it to capture a guard. Then, using the guard - aka threatening him to help us - we'll have him get us inside and we will act undercover. Using you 4 as the dragons "we own" we'll go into the Scorpion Den and buy the others as they are auctioned off. If we can buy them, then we can just be on our way."
She looked over at Whitestar and Blackout to see if what Apple was translating was correct and by the looks she got, she assumed that she was translating just fine.
"The only other thing," she continued, "is I need to know whether there are any wealthy people brand new to the Scorpion Den that no one has really seen yet. If we can capture them, then I can pose as one of them and we can get into the Scorpion Den without people suspecting us."
She looked at all of them, "Now, I know you probably don't like the idea of having to act like you're "owned" by me, but it's the only way to do it. Once we're inside, we can work on buying the others and creating our plan to get out, which should just be to leave the city and make our way to any of the kingdoms."
She waited expectantly for there reply to her plan. There were a couple of gray areas here and there, but she figured that she would figure those out when she came to it. On the run planning was something she enjoyed a lot. Keeps me on my toes, she thought.
She turned towards Blackout, "Did you hear of any new wealthy people coming to the Scorpion Den anytime soon?"
The ground whizzed by Austin as he made his way towards the oasis. The nightwing under him was very well-trained and took orders very well. Better than how my previous dragon took orders, he thought. He flew closer to the oasis and then veered slightly to the right and continued straight until he saw a patrol group and a very fancy looking limo. The limo was different though. It was built for rough terrain like the desert with its large tires and several extra sets of wheels. Around them drove 4 jeeps, each with 4 people inside. Not a very strong defensive line, he scoffed. They slowed down to a stop as a couple of them pointed towards him in the sky. He pulled the reins on the dragon and the nightwing folded its wings and leaned into a downward dive until finally spreading the wings back out and letting the wind catch them and land them safely on the ground. Austin relished the wind in his face as they dove. Ah, to fly. He slid off of his nightwing and landed gracefully, the sand crunching underneath him. He walked up to the limo/jeep and the driver got out of his side. He looked around and noticed the entire group had stopped and had guns either pointed at him or at the ready to.
He held up a hand towards them, "Don't be alarmed by me. My name is Austin and I am here to help you. The people you are protecting sent for someone from the Terrifying Viper Pit of Dragons. I'm the person they sent to help you." Some of the others turned towards the nightwing and raised their weapons again.
Austin chuckled slightly, they don't know what they're doing. "Don't be alarmed. This is just my dragon that I rented to fly over here. It will be a very strong asset if we have to defend ourselves from trouble."
A voice broke through the whisperings of the soldiers. Austin turned his head towards the young voice and saw a young blonde man standing there, probably 20 or 21. Hmm, start em early I guess.
"Ah, yes! It's ok, boys! I requested someone like this. Lower your weapons." He walked up to Austin and held out a hand in friendly greeting.
Ugh, I have to shake this guy's hand too? No, remember, Austin. Act the part. He stuck out his hand in return and firmly shook. He forced a kind smile and asked for the man's name.
"Ah, yes! I am Sir Jack Salter." He gestured to a woman stepping out of the limo. She was fairly tall with dark hair and a young face. He guessed about 19 or 20 years old. "This is my fiance, Lady Jasmine Melore." She smiled slightly and sent a nod of greeting in Austin's direction.
He nodded back and smiled at the two of them. "I'm here to guide you the rest of the way to the Viper Pit," he said, the words "Viper Pit" sounding strange coming out of his mouth. Strange how humans and dragons have two different names for the same exact place. He pushed aside the thought and focused on the matter at hand. "So, I will lead you all the rest of the way and fly in front of your group. If that's ok of course?"
The man looked at him and nodded in agreement. "Yes, yes, you're the expert of these lands. Lead the way!"
Austin smiled at his naiveness. "Yes sir."
Apple listened and translated calmly and clearly for the others. It was an interesting plan, she thought. Perhaps not the most foolproof, but really, if it involved risk, no plan was going to be fully perfect. She reached out one talon, reaching for Bamboo's. She felt around before finding it, and tapped twice to get his attention. She felt him shuffle closer.
"What?" He whispered.
"Bamboo, this is really dangerous. What if something bad happens? Maybe we shouldn't..." She murmured anxiously.
Bamboo nudged her with his shoulder. "I know. But really, won't it be fun?!" He said excitedly, then remembered to lower his voice again.
Alyssia next to them asked Blackout a question, and before Apple could respond, she realized she had to translate for them. She did so, and shushed Bamboo in order to listen to Blackout.
"I didn't hear of too many..." Blackout had a thoughtful edge to his voice, as though he was trying to remember.
Bamboo looked at him. He seemed to be trying to remember something. "Oh!" He exclaimed. "There should be a limo heading near this oasis, it'll probably be guarded by some Nightwings or some people from the Den-army...."
Bamboo glanced at his sister. Her scales swirled lightly with icy blue and teal, with edges of gold. Thoughtfulness, indecisiveness, and slight excitement. He leaned closer again, and murmured softly with a grin, "Hey, we can do this! Let's help them." His former concern was replaced by excitement, and he had to control his scales so he wouldn't be bright gold.
A shadow swept across the edge of the oasis, almost over them, and Bamboo gasped and camouflaged, opening his wings and covering both Alyssia and Apple.
He glanced up and saw a Nightwing flying above.
Nearby, Blackout growled softly. "There. That'll be a guard heading to accompany the travelers."
Apple, huddled beneath her brother, felt a prick of concern, but secretly, though she didn't want to admit it, she was kinda thrilled at the idea of an adventure...

Whitestar tensed as the Nightwing passed over, expecting it to spot his silvery teal scales easily through the foliage. But it kept flying, skirting the edge of the oasis, and continued out over the desert. "Considering we don't have any other ideas as of now, Alyssia's plan is probably the best we've got. But if we are going to try it, we should do it soon, before the... "limo", as you said, gets within sight of the Scorpion Den." He didn't tear his eyes away from the sky as he spoke and he kept his ears pricked, listening intently for the sounds of the hunter's wings.

I'll reply to this later tonight ✌️.

The news of the limo excited Alyssia. Yes! There will probably be some important people in that caravan. This plan might actually work! She saw a shadow overhead and then saw Bamboo protectively cover them with his wings. Her heart started racing at the prospect of another battle. I don't have anything to fight with. She sighed and decided to just be the planner on this one. I could get in and try and take control of one the limo or something. She pushed the thoughts out of her mind and focused on the situation at hand. Her mind kicked into gear and she began thinking of scenarios and ways to take on this group.
Turning towards Apple, she whispered, "We can't attack this group if we don't know what we're up against." She started to make her way away from the group, her excitement shining through her bright eyes. The feeling was taking over her and all fear was being expelled from her mind...all except a small nagging feeling of fear which she blocked with all her might. Adrenaline began pumping and she made her way towards the edge of the oasis and beckoned for the others to follow her. Trying not to make a sound, she got to the tree line and looked out at the foreboding desert. Images from the day before jumped into her mind and she took a step back. The battle, her pain, the terror of almost dying. It was as if the burns started stinging right as she thought of this, and the sun began to bake her skin, bringing back more memories.
Alyssia, no. Focus. You have to do this. You'll never get back home if you're sitting around in an oasis waiting for something to happen. She looked in the distance to see a small caravan of people. She made out a strange looking limo and four jeeps. The silhouette of the dragon had landed and there was a figure walking in the group of vehicles. Undoubtedly the guard sent from the Scorpion Den. The person walked through and another small figure came out to discuss it looked like.
Alyssia squinted in the harsh sunlight and tried to make out figures in the jeeps, but she couldn't see in the windows. Hmm, we'll have to take a chance. I mean, what's the worst, four people in each? Though, I'm thinking maybe two in each. I don't think either will be too much for us. She turned back around towards the group and went close to Apple to whisper something for her to translate. "One main vehicle and four smaller ones. I would estimate about 8 guards around the main vehicle and no more than two in the main vehicle. And, then there's the guard from the Scorpion Den. The guard also has a nightwing, so I would say that those two will be our main concern." She looked at the others, her mind spinning until she finally settled on a course of action. The puzzles she had done in her youth came back to her mind as she contemplated how to handle the situation. Every piece has a place, Alyssia. The countless times she stared at pieces wondering where they go. Then, putting things together in her machines made her have the same mindset. Every piece has a place. She looked at the four dragons in front of her and grinned. Every piece has a place.
"Alright, here's the plan." She looked at Apple making sure she was ready. "Bamboo, I want you to sneak around to the other side of the group and wait there for the order to attack. With your stealthy camouflage, I don't think that will be a problem for you." Then, Apple. "Apple, I want you to stay in the oasis and be ready in case we need help. But, mostly stay safe." She looked at the beautiful white dragon, "Whitestar, you wait near the oasis for the attack. This way, we can flank them and get the jump on them." She turned to Blackout. "Because you have the most experience with fighting from the Scorpion Den, I'm putting you in charge of taking care of the nightwing and the rider, if he's there." She smiled widely and looked back towards the group, finally realizing what she could do. "And I!" She said dramatically, "Will be the distraction."
Terror tried to grip her, but she frantically pushed it away while trying to act confident to the others. She couldn't let it show. Plus, this was a great plan! What did she have to be afraid of. This is what I've always wanted! Isn't it? she thought to herself as she looked back to the others. I've wanted adventure, but did I really want to put myself in this much danger? She shoved the thought out of her mind, determined to examine it later when she was in a safer situation. She looked at all the dragons and decided to speak this last part in Dragonese to bypass the translating. "Plan good?"
