"No!" Sol shouted, as if words could stop the dragons before they careened into the sand dune. He charged towards the CloudWing, a thick spray of sand shooting through the air as the dragons ahead struggled.Alicanto yanked the human away from his chest and closer to his stomach, folding his wings around himself and Tobias as he pushed off the sand with his back legs, rolling across the ground away from Gen. He heard something small stab into the sand where he'd been and glanced back as he sprung to his feet, seeing the small puncture where he imagined Gen's tail stinger had been. His gaze flickered around the scene.
Ajax was still fighting Sol on the other side of the smoking car, and Gen didn't seem like he was giving up anytime soon. Alicanto ran his options through his mind quickly as he lept straight up into the air, more warping spiraling from his feathers and forming into another blade that he directed toward the disturbed sand he hoped was where Gen stood.
Retreat would be cowardly, but the hybrid was deadly. Even if Alicanto escaped with his life, he might end up taking Tobias in the end, and the results for the Cloudwing back at the Den wouldn't be much better than dying under Gen's claws. He hated to run from a fight, but losing Tobias was a death sentence.
Alicanto whipped around in the air, commanding his warping one last time to slash within the area he assumed Gen was or would be. He pounded in the direction of the Den, realizing he was gripping Tobias perhaps a little too tightly and he loosened his grip slightly.
In the millisecond his attention shifted, silver scales flashed out of the corner of his vision, and he felt the dragon slam into his side, talons gripping his shoulders as they plummeted back to the sand.
Eclipse stared in shock at the scene in front of her.
A destroyed transport was lying in the sand, smoke billowing out of the front and the doors torn from the sides, lying worthless in the sand.
Sol was blasting flame at another red dragon, who was hovering in the air in front of him, slashing clumsily at the Solarwing, his expression a mix of rage and surprise.
Shards of metal from the car and silver feathers were scattered across the churned sand, and Eclipse could see the Cloudwing wrestling with the half-invisible dragon.
But the feathered dragon was silver, metallic, and glittering in the moonlight. His warping shot through the air toward his opponent, who caught it just before it pierced his neck and then vanished from sight again. In a second, the Cloudwing was in the air, summoning more of the liquid silver, one talon pressed against his chest.
Eclipse froze.
She recognized the small shape struggling in the silver dragon's grip, her night vision focused clearly in the thick darkness. She didn't even think as the dragon turned to fly away, didn't think as her wings unfurled as she raced up the large dune, leaping, pounding her wings.
Something drove her through the splitting pain in her shoulder and stitched wing, desperation as the Cloudwing flung one last weapon at his attacker.
She saw the silver dragon glance down barely.
Something in her wing gave out, and she thrust her talons out, her lunge uncontrolled as pain ripped through her shoulder again.
Her body connected with soft feathers and then the air opened around her as she gripped the Cloudwing's shoulders, the ground slamming against both of them as they dropped from the sky.
Sol could feel his scales growing incredibly hot, the sand beneath his talons now sizzling, a boiling, thick, black liquid. He dodged Eclipse, roaring as he shoved the CloudWing down into the sand, pinning a talon against the dragons neck as he wrenched it's wing back, revealing Tobias.
With quick, familiar actions, Sol pushed his talon harder against the CloudWing's neck, growling as the shining feathers began to bubble. He couldn't touch Tobias- not without searing right through the skin. He hoped Eclipse would catch on as he shifted his weight against the CloudWing, roaring as he fought to keep the thrashing dragon pinned.
