Of Feathers And Flames- A Wings of Fire AU RP

Time passed- Vel wasn't sure how much.
She pulled herself from the water, her eyes lidded to shield the pupils from burning in the mid-day sun.
A stabbing pain of sickness ached. She dragged Alicanto into the river, and then she brought Ajax over, too. There was a tree overlooking a shallow notch in the shoreline. Vel put the dragons there. Ajax woke, but he was too weak to protest. Alicanto slept through it all. She wanted to submerge him and wake him up. But she was too scared he wouldn't wake up.
She drank. The only shot she had at survival was to stay hydrated and actively awake. So Vel tried to clean Alicanto's neck. Tried to stay awake.
Hot, empty desert.

Arya squinted across the empty dunes, feeling sweat trickle down her back. Cochineal flew at a steady pace.

“I see something,” the dragon said, flicking his ears forward. “An oasis, I think?”

Arya strained her eyes, spotting a dark blob in the distance, shifting in the heatwaves rising off the sand. Cochineal picked up the pace, wings buzzing.

As they got closer, noticed flashes of light. Reflections. What..?

“What’s that?” she asked, knowing Cochineal could see better than her.

“I’m-“ Cochineal said. “Oh moons. They’re dragons.”

“Dragons all the way out here? What are they doing? Are they hunters?”

“No, I don’t think so, they’re not NightWings.”

Cochineal swooped closer. Silver feathers, flame colored scales, and sickly pale shifting ones. Something was wrong.

“Wait, the silver one,” Cochineal said, balking to a stop. “I know him. Alicanto, he’s one of the best hunters in the Scorpion Den.”

“So do you think it’s a trap?” Arya questioned. The silver CloudWing hybrid looked to be on deaths door, and an ugly gaping wound bloomed on his neck.

Cochineal didn’t respond, closing in on the group with wide looping circles.

“Something is very wrong with them.” Cochineal observed. He swooped to the ground, landing on the sand a distance away.

Vel rushed up towards the bank, dragging Alicanto by the jaw. She threw him behind a large barrier of joshua trees, his limp body slumping into the thicket, his silver feathers refecting the sunlight.
"Ajax, get us out of this." Vel hissed loudly, leaping towards the SkyWing. "I don't care what happens, I'm not getting tranqued without a really. Big. Fight."
She could see the dragon on the horizon, accompanied by a human. Vel's nerves jangled, and she blinked heavily, dry heaving a moment later.
"Ooh, we got to put up a fight." She growled through quick breaths, "One heck of a fight.."

What's happening with the gang heading to the Checkpoint? Can they just arrive? Maybe MJ writes their arrival?

“They think we’re trying to capture them,” Arya said, bewildered. Well, we are fugitive Scorpion Den officials that just appeared out of nowhere.

She moved to jump off Cochineal’s back.

“No, stay there,” Cochineal said. “They’re mistrustful of us, they’ll hurt you. I’ve got this.”

Arya hesitated. Cochineals dragon skills weren’t very good, but they didn’t have any other choice.

Cochineal took a step towards the other dragons before sitting and spreading his wings and arms to show that he wasn’t hiding anything.

“We’re not hunters,” he said. “We’re fugitives.”

Oh, I hope this isn’t a terrible idea. Arya thought. Alicanto was bad news, as far as she’d heard. Why was he out here with a random SkyWing and RainWing?

Ajax started to say something, but Vel slapped her tail over his, interrupting his words.
"Fugitives." She repeated, calling back his words. They were no known members of the Rebellion.
Lowering her voice, she pushed Ajax towards the ditch in which Alicanto lay. "Don't leave Ali, and don't say anything stupid. They probably know you. And the CloudWing, too."
She moved closer to the strangers, ignoring Ajax's growling protest.
Vel cleared her throat, looking the new dragon dead in the eye. "You come from the Scorpion Den, then?" He eyes wandered towards the human. She felt her gaze falter.
Her legs were shaking horridly by now. Bad enough to loose her footing. Vel clenched her jaw, seizing up the muscles in her forearms, wings, legs, only making the trembling pain increase.

Alicanto gasped faintly as his body landed awkwardly against hard ground, the ache in his bones increasing as he heaved a deep, forced breath. His neck stung again in pain, sending an ebbing burning through his entire throat and chest. He shifted his head slightly, trying to find a less awkward position and his eyes flickered briefly before the pain drug him back into darkness.

“Fugitives,” Cochineal repeated, paving a step forward.

“Even if we were hunters, I don’t think you all are in any shape to resist,” Arya interjected. Cochineal glared at her and Arya snapped her mouth shut.

Cochineal tilted his head at the dragons. They looked to be at deaths door. Him and Arya had brought nothing. He wasn’t even sure they could offer any help. And Alicanto being here…. very weird.

“What… happened here?” he asked.
