% of protein to use for ducklings and quail

Great info thanks. I plan on keeping the females for eggs and 2 males for breeding and the rest for some scrumptious meals lol. I’m planning on incubating some eggs within the next 2-3 weeks so maybe I’ll just keep the 28% for the baby quailies

Good luck with the hatch!! Nothing cuter than quail babies. They are nearly as small as large bumblebees at hatch! :love They zip extremely fast too. Blink and they are outta the egg!

Thanks!! I’ve hatched chickens and a duck but not quail. I got 8 at a day old so I know how tiny but there’s nothing like watching eggs hatch. I sit on a pillow beside the incubator with some snacks to watch them hatch. My hubby and kids think I’m a little cuckoo but whatever lol

Yeah, Incubator TV! It's an addiction for sure. :lau

Metzers has a feed calculator that you can put in the amount of protein currently in your feed and how much you want it to be. It also tells you how much of another grain to add. I would post it, but I am using the app and would lose this spot if I back out to go to a browser. If you can't find it by this afternoon, I will find it for ya!

I have found with Quail, lower protein for adult birds is better in the long run than higher protein. If you start going over 28% protein, it can cause too early frequent laying, egg binding and fatty liver disease. 20% to 24% will still keep them laying and healthier over the long years, that is if you are raising for longevity. Quail babies however do require somewhere around 28%.

I think 20% for both Quail and Ducks will be perfect! :)
Good points. I wanted to meantion that quail need much lower protein once they reach 16 weeks. Purina makes a game bird maintenance chow that is 12.5% protein for game birds from 16 weeks till breeding season.
