OFA X-Rays... UPDATE OFA RESULTS IN

Got my 14 month old Golden Retriever's hips x-rayed last week when she was spayed. Was wondering what you think of the hips? What do you think the OFA will rate the hips?

I'll post what the vet said later.

The rt side not sure. 14 months is a littile early 24 months is for OFA unless they had change the age.

I'd say they're good... but in the long run it doesn't mean much. I have a dog that was rated excellent, and she's ended up having hip issues probably from her rough behavior and wear and tear.

Actually, the right side looks better than the left. The right hip is deeper and more tightly seated than the left hip. The gap at the top of the acetabulum would concern me.

And if it were my dog, and I had spent the money to get the films done, I would CERTAINLY spend the other 35 bucks to have it sent to OFA for evaluation by a trained orthopedic specialist. Although the Preliminary Films are only viewed by Dr. Keller, unlike films at or after 24 months, which are viewed by 3 different orthopedic specialists and rated by consensus, I would still want a professional objective opinion since you already have the films.

I got them done because around 8 months I noticed that she had some clicking when she sits. I started her on glucosamine then, and now shes on glycoflex joint supplements. But im very interested in what ofa will grade her hips as. To me, they don't look that bad.

It's good to know her status. There are a lot of very good management techniques you can do if you realize there is an issue.

They look a heck of a lot better than my GSD's hips did at 14 months old. His hips have too little articulation, and also show very early signs of arthritic change, but he never showed any pain, even up to the age of four and half years old. These were his first xrays done, the second pics were worse, but not horribly so. This is considered mildly dysplastic.
