Off-topic Freecycle

So far so good for me. I made my first offer and then I was able to ask for stuff. So I make an offer every now and then so I can keep asking for stuff. Two days ago there was a post about birdcages. I replyed and now I have 8 cages!!!!

Ours here in Brownwood shut down... Never found out why. Course just as I went to look for rebuilding the old coop supplies it was no longer.... hmmmmm:confused:

I can't seem to join mine. It just shows as awaiting approval or something like that. It's said that for months. I have no way to contact whoever runs the group to ask why I'm still waiting. I have a garage full of stuff that I'd love to get rid of. We live too far out in the woods to do a yard sale. So i thought I'd offer some things on there and get things I need! It's frustrating that they won't acknowlege my sign up!!!

Am I the only one freaked out by freecycle? Not by the idea of freecycle; that I love.

But the few times I've offered stuff, I've gotten zillions of emails from people dying to have the stuff, they ask for my address to come pick it up, and I reply with my address and phone number. When I reply with address I ask them when they are coming, and tell them that if they are not coming at the specified time they MUST call me because we have rescue dogs (pit bulls) and I need to make sure the dogs are in the house before they come up (not a lie; I've got 3 that "patrol" the farm, and they will destroy your car before you can get it in park. I really need to know if someone's coming up here). Then...never hear back. Hhhhmmm. Not a no thank you, not a I changed my mind, nothing. Makes me wonder if people just wanted my address to come scope me out for something else, which makes me glad I add the tag line about the dogs!! If someone does reply to me, they pick up promptly and they definitely call before they come!!

Anyway, I'm afraid of the freecycle. I probably could've gotten rid of my million roosters that way months ago, but so far I've just stuck to the good 'ol BYC and to putting flyers up at our feed store. Never had a problem there!! I've met plenty of cool people both ways!

I've belonged to Freecycle lists for a few different towns and economics definitely play a role in the type of posts one sees. Some lists had more Offered posts Wanted posts and vice versa.

The basic etiquette for most of them, as has been mentioned, is that you need to offer something if you're going to ask for something.

I've gotten some amazing things through Freecycle. If this list isn't doing it for you, maybe join the list for the next town over or a nearby town that's fairly affluent.
