offially on lock down!!

Yahoo!! I am so excited for you! I had a dream last night that I got up this morning and all mine had hatched in the night and I missed it all! Then this morning I though I heard a peep, but i didn't heard it again, so I think that I just "wanted" to hear peeping. lol How does that shelf liner work for ya? Maybe I will try it next time.

Yeah. I'm pretty pumped. I just about jumped out of my skin when I saw my chick. I startled her when I turned on the light and she wobbled into the corner. Now she's moved some, but mostly just sleeping. Funny thing is, there was absolutely no movement since lock-in (still nothing on my other egg), so signs at all, then, poof, there she was.

I like the shelf liner. I'm following advice I found on this forum and didn't add water until lock down. Then I put water in the reservoirs with folded up paper towels. I have one paper towel rolled into a tube extending from the reservoir touching another one on the wire. This way it can wick from the reservoir and I can dribble water onto it without disturbing things too much. I put the shelf liner in because I wanted the eggs up off the wet towel and didn't want a dry towel wicking fluid away from a hatching chick. I don't know, seems to have worked and will be easy clean up.

Good luck on yours and hang in there. Keep me informed...I'm waiting with you.

What's the update redhd077? Any news?

I don't think my other egg is going to hatch. I'm going to do the float test tonight and decide what to do. Maybe let it stay for a few more days?

In the meantime...I went to one of our local feed stores and bought 3 Moyer Brown layer chicks to provide company and warmth for my homegrown chick. Even though I picked out the 3 smallest I could find, they are still much bigger than her. I'll get a picture of them in the brooder later and post it.

Nothing! All day and nothing has happened! Im scared to death something has happened to that little one! I hope something happens in the night!!

I hope your other egg hatchs! Thats a bummer. I have 16 total so they better start doing something!

I candled the egg and did the float test. Nothing. Non-viable, non-thriving...dead. I'm not sure what went wrong because it was moving at lock down. I'm going to bury it in my garden.

Then...start planning my next hatch. I need to look at the calendar and see when it would be convenient to have a hatching.

Did nothing come from the little hole in one of your eggs?
