Same here. We've got enough so they can go instate public without problems. But well, Matt wanted MIT or Cornell. Cornell gave him a full ride, so he went there.

Impressive!

Shane wants nothing to do with higher education, hoping he'll grow into it later as hard as it will be with a wife. DD#1 is already planning for it and we've got her covered. DD#2 is a great big question mark, of course...but miracles happen and I'm a Looooong way from giving up the fight there. DD#3 is very bright and hopefully we'll get it together for her education when the time comes. Hoping for grants, working on keeping the grades up. Better find a math tutor for DD#1.

At the risk of being tarred and feathered....

I do think that school should prepare each child for college, but if there's something else that is more attractive and meaningful for a student to persure once they reach that point, that is fine as well. There will always be a need for people who are able to work with thier hands, the trick is to pick something that will still be a job in 20 years. With so many good schools offering online programs, I think in another 10-20 years the kids who leave home to live at the school will be the minority.

And then after they fall down a flight of stairs, we will deny them all treatment. Sounds fair.

No tar or feathers here. He IS NOT prepared for college, and the opportunity would be wasted at this point in his life. But he doesn't work with his hands, and doesn't want to. If he decides to stay in the military he will have a hard time advancing with no additional education. If he comes out and wants to go into law enforcement of any type, likewise. He is married at barely 19 and has a hole in his pocket where his money leaks out. His college fund is protected, or I guarantee it'd be gone. I'm waiting for signs of emotional maturity and the ability to live within his means before I cut it loose, and it'll take a court order so it's really up to him. If he chooses to go to college, or better still in his case, trade school that'll be great. I'd really like for him to take advantage of any and all military benefits available for himself and his wife before they start the very large family they have in mind.

Wish I was a master plumber or a master electrician. But I'd LOVE to be an editor.

I'd enjoy being an editor, too.
