Yeah, ew. The guy was all "The pigs keep eating their feed, they all live in my basement" I was like "OMG I need to free your ducks!" He was going to turn them loose in the wild, I'd rather just quarantine for a few days and let them be happy in my yard. His description is 2 black with white bibs and one buff.

Here's a drive-by posting, I"m late for work. I'll be back later to check on everyone's progress.



I put 8 eggs into lockdown last night

Today, after work, I get to finish up a small area of painting then rinse out the sprayer and clean up all the masking, drop clothes and painting paraphernalia. Then unload the trailer full of lumber and styrofoam insulation into the barn. We have the table saw set up out there so we can cut the foamboard into strips which we will glue into channels, or troughs, in preparation for Saturday. BIL (to be) is coming out with a trencher and we are going to be laying the water lines 4' deep, trench, lay a foamboard trough, put 3" pvc in the trough, pull the water lines through the pvc, then lay the foamboard cover over the trough to protect the water from freezing (we hope).

Next we are trenching 18" deep for the electric line, installing the electrical panel in the barn and then running lines for plenty of outlets and light fixtures. I think a couple exterior outlets (just in case) and motion sensor lights for the outside and we have some leftover fluorescent fixtures from a previous home remodel that will work out great for the inside. I'm having an outlet above each pop door so no messy cords strung all around for chickens to get tangled up with. There will be outlets for water heaters too and I'm also going to have a couple extra outlets around the interior perimeter, just because, you never know when you might need one.

Then, last but not least, the natural gas trench will get done on Monday. The plumber is scheduled to be here Tuesday to do the gas line and hook up the unit heaters in the shed and the barn, then Tuesday night (and for days after I imagine) we can work on filling in the trenches and compacting the ground.

And THEN we can concentrate on building all the interior pens.

I'm tired already just thinking about it...

I think it was the heat. He has struggled a bit this summer with the heat.....he was not on the roost last night....was sitting in the corner, which I knew was weird. He was dead when I went out this morning. His head was kind of purplish....poor mr m.

He was such a fiesty arsehole.....the last couple of days he has tried to follow me out of the pen in the mornings....yesterday he stood at the fence watching me walk away....it was peculiar and sad. I actually considered letting him out into the big yard but he likes to fight and I was afraid my big roo would kill him.

Going to sell off my mottled flock now. Just not the same without him.
