I've been on hold with Beltrami County Social Services for over 30 minutes. Not yet spoken with a person. Its regarding an expedited (requires immediate attention) case that came in today, but (oh wait, they answered! YES! NOOOO! oh way to take the wind out of my sails, I need to talk to the OTHER lady but they can't transfer so I have to hang up and call again and hope that I get picked up by that one) the kid is open on stuff with the other county so we can't give him his emergency food stamps, but they wont answer the phone in order for me to tell them to close him.

I'm going to have an episode in a moment.

What a system! The only way you can get ahold of the person you need is to call and hope you get them? If not, call back? That says a lot for your state's social services departments.

OUR office does not work that way. Yuu call, you get the directory, you say the name of the person you want, and boom, you got them. OR we give our direct dial numbers to ppl so they can avoid the stupid computer, because, its my voice on it and I try to minimize ppl listening to it. ALSO, we have "transfer" buttons on our phones.... Some ppl in our office want to go to the other system, its called "case banking" where no case has any specific worker, its all just a melting pot full of cases and you work on whatever case you grabbed random papers for that day. GROSS.

Oh and we have heard that counties that use the banking system are on 3 month rotations. Imagine answering the phone all day every day for 3 months. Then you get switched to interviewing new clients for 3 months. Then you process papers for 3 months. Just take me out back now.

In other news, still no Emma Dog.

I feel like a callous jerk, but we HAVE to have a dog on the farm so I've been looking at the shelters.

I think I found our new chicken dog.
