That is also a contributing factor. It is a culmination of multiple parts. It also has some thing to do with general hoof care, but it has no single cause.
Founder is a generic for foot lameness just like colic is a generic term for stomach problems. Generally founder is used to refer to severe foot lameness.
Exactly, laminitis is not necessarily a result of being over weight. I think it has more to do with improper foot care and, in my experience, feet that are kept soggy for too long (like how a person gets pruny in the bathtub). Sadly, most people who do not pay attention to the feet also don't pay attention to conditioning (which is not just exercise but also proper diet)
Just like people, healthy horses can fight other possible ailments much more easily than overfed/underfed, neglected or abused horses as all the other stressors weaken them making them suseptible to other things.
Sorry, having flashbacks of many rescues.
these babies need help, Nella have you called animal control yet?

Beaner, you need to call on these people. Those horses are gonna keel over from weakness.
My silkie roo that I have been treating for the past week died overnight. I am not heartbroken - he had the personality of a pencil lead. But I did try to fix him.

Gretch the countdown has begun!
I wanna take in a horse but my property is all blackberry bushes and nooooo fencing, besides the fact I would have to call ya'll every hour to make sure I was doing everything right. Poor little things.

I agree!!!!!! When we got ours they were skin and bones too. It took MONTHS of high protein diet to get them to where they are today. We measured them last night and Duke gain 150# and Duchess gained #130 in a year.
