We are mandated being in social services and all. The child protectionw orkers remind us all the tiem to report the crap out of anyone we suspect. Maybe they screen it out as not bad enough but eventually they start to see al those little things building up and then they go apesh-t on the abuser.

My mom almost died from her pregnancy with me and that was my birth story; you know, when you cuddle up with your mom and she tells you about what a cute baby you were and how you actually liked lima beans when you were two? She was a Valium/alcohol/bennie/narcissistic drama queen grump junkie with the personality of Scarlett O'hara, alternating between rage and coma. Never knew if there'd be food in the house or I'd have to steal food from the school cafeteria. Kept finding her od'd under the bed, but it never took. Thought she was psychic when she was only a psycho. Anybody see that movie with the YaYa's? Funny thing, she grew up(somewhat) finally (only joining a cult and laying off the alcohol), when I was in my twenties. Then she got cancer and devolved into a crazy person again. She died about 20 years ago. I felt guilty for being relieved. When I was 9 to 11 she turned a blind eye when "Uncle" (friend of the family) took to visiting often and "tucking in in".

The worst thing? Sometimes her rage starts leaking out around MY edges and I get terrified that I might turn into her. Fortunately, I have resources she never dreamed of. Like putting my kids FIRST.

I don't feel guilty anymore.

We get the kids up at around 4:00 am for trips and then they sleep till about 9 so we get a good start. I'm mean and don't allow more potty breaks than I deem necessary. We bring a cooler of snacks and drinks and if they don't like whats in there, tough, we aint stoppin

Yeah, but I can't convince BIL and SIL that night driving is a good idea. Since we need their help and the kids think it's great fun to stay up all night, and the reality is, I'll keep them up all day once we are done driving, they'll go back to bed at a normal time soon enough. I'll just deal with whiny, fussy kids for a few days. But at least I can then throw them outside to play instead of being stuck in a very small enclosed area.
