Then you have a 2 leg predator. Snakes eat fake eggs. Get a major lock for your gates. Post No Trespassing signs. Then video and take to the cops. Was the white egg a store egg?
Beaner, if any of the JGs are being stupid broody, you are welcome to chicks. I think only the 'dottes and Marans are being broody, as DH has nasty words for the broodies and the JGs are sweeties always.
Tomorrow I am going to (if I remember) clip the gate and spread flour in front of it. Like you do to look for animal tracks.
I'm still getting eggs in other areas though. I still get a few in the coop and there a zillion in the cochin coop. And none of my cages are locked and it doesnt seem like anything else is bothered or moved.
I have more chickens than I know what to do with already. I am only emotionally attached to the "originals" and the few rejects I've added. I have tons of young birds I will be selling soon, although I may keep one to replace this hen. I dont need to replace her, but I'm just looking for an excuse to keep one of the prettier ones.
I wonder if the cat pan is just an easy grab spot. Squirrels tend to leave some mess around. They can steal an egg, but they don't go far. Or ours never did. It's the lack of mess that makes me think snake or person.
