You know whats interesting....I had a hen who was broody recently. Just for a few days. She was in THAT nestbox. Every night I would take her out and stick her in the coop. Right when I was going to break down and let her sit in a brooder.........she wasn't broody any more. I bet something scared her off from sitting in that box. She was mean and fiesty.......one of my barred cochin hens. I've never had them break before finishing off a batch...

Yeah something is definitely going on. I'll pick up the camera stuff tomorrow. and that nestbox has been removed for now. They will just have to lay their eggs elsewhere. I do have snakes around here......suprised I havent had any snake issues prior to this. But not convinced it is a snake. I do have lots of squirrels.......one was on top of the rabbit pen the other day. My chickens ignore them. Tons of mice.....but they usually leave a mess if they eat eggs.

For now, going to put the bottom half of that box in the coop where they have been laying. If the girls want to lay eggs elsewhere, so be it. I'll get them sorted out eventually.....




Now that I'm thinking about it, I have found eggs in weird places in the yard. over by the air conditioner or in the planter......thought the chickens were getting lazy. Maybe it really is some animal (like a squirrel) taking them but dropping them here and there.

We had a run of chicken deaths, a few weeks back when the weather was super hot AND super humid. The lack of eggs and the sudden death, we believe it was rattlers. We had one dead chicken every few days.
