Pretzel Marine came over for pork-shoulder dinner last night. The kids ran him ragged---but somewhere in the melee Shaner asked for menudo. So I took the leftover pork & fat and boiled a bunch of dried chilies.

I just got done putting in the hominy, cilantro, and onions.

...it smells so good. Sooooooo good.

I wish I liked the "tang" the red chilies have more. Not the spice, but their flavor. I much prefer the fresh green chilies to the dried red---but then it wouldn't be menuedo.

Good morning!

Twice a year the health inspector comes to inspect my kitchen and make sure all is in order and clean and that I am following food safety etc.
Anyhoo ways, long story short, (oh, by the way, my kitchen is very clean, and I have all my temp charts etc in order!), about 30 seconds after he left yesterday, the vice principal comes in and asks for a pan of water for...................................

some goats. Yes, there was a herd of goats outside in the parking lot. 3 adults and 5 babies!!
Oh my, the inspector just left, I said. It really was comical.

And I thought to myself, ya know, maybe I really do still live in the country.

(I often say I don't live in the country anymore because of all the traffic and population and store etc.)

Randomness: There was this weird screetching outside. I thought maybe a hawk got caught in my bird netting.

Nope.

There was a Goffin Cockatoo in my tree.

Hey, that's cool Laree.

I like goat, but I do not have one, I wanted to put a baby goat in my car and take it home, but I didn't.

Reminded me of the time my mom was having the appraisal guy come to appraise the house. They were walking around inside and the neighbor's goat ran into the house and jumped onto the waterbed. It was hilarious, my mom did not think it so funny.

Well, my HOH Japanese neighbor, who just got out of hospital, sister, from Sweden that I picked up from airport, walked down to check the mail for her sister. When she walked back up I asked if she wanted to see my chickens. I picked up Poof Face, I think she got a little scared, but she did pet her. Then I noticed mama and her chicks under neighbor son's tree, thats on the driveway that goes between neighbor son and my house, up to Japanese neighbor's house, so I walked with her a bit and we stopped and watched mama hen scratch in the leaves and the chickies run to eat. I told her, she is teaching the chicks how to eat. She watched in amazement. She is also HOH, so I am not sure if she could hear the peeping, but it was a peaceful and calming few minutes. I know she enjoyed it.

A couple of weeks ago I had fallen and hurt my elbow, remember, when I was going to son's with a handful of chicks?
Anyhoo, after that I had said, at least I didn't get hurt when I crawled through that window.
Since I haven't been on much lately, I don't know if anyone noticed I had said I crawled in a window.

Well, the reason I crawled through that window that day was because my neighbor's friend had gone to visit neighbor, and she came to my house and said she wasn't answering the door and could I please come help, so I went over there, and yes, the house was locked up tight and no answer and it was unusual because it was a nice day and all the shades should not of been closed still, and I found that window open and asked the friend if I should go in and she said please, and I found neighbor unconscious and unresponsive on floor and I let the friend in and called 911 and we got her breathing and the ambulance came and she was in hosp for a week, and I stuck to her side like glue cuz she's elderly and they had no insurance info and didn't know of her allergies and she's HOH and etc etc etc, so I was able to call her reg dr office and get them to fax ins info and I emailed with her sister and got allergy list and then made arrangements with her sister for her to come. It took several days because it is hard to get into US and all kinds of things went on. It was hard because I am not family so drs etc could not talk to me cuz of the privacy laws, so I sat with her after work everyday, and she did not want to be in hosp and I told her it was not meds but fluid to rehydrate her and then vitamins and she was ok with that, and I was telling the truth, and then she had to go to nursing home and anyhoo ways, she wanted to go home so the dr finally wrote the orders and her sister came and I brought her home. phewwwwwwww
