I've gotten a lot better. I give total credit to my dh for that. He's willing to help me go through stuff, and take stuff immediately to the goodwill or trash before I change my mind. We actually have less "stuff" than most people, probably because I know it's a problem so we keep an eye on it.
My house would never look like the ones you see on hoarders though, my dh would leave me LOOONG before that happened.
I have seventy some pairs of shoes and two closets of clothes (plus a full dresser) though. And seven crock-pots.
Things that have gotten better:
Lotions/perfumes, I used to have literally CASES of stuff. Now I'm allotted a certain amount of space for this stuff and I CANNOT buy anymore unless there is room in my space.
Clothes, I used to have not only closets full, but big storage totes full of clothes from as far back as MIDDLE SCHOOL. Every time I buy a new piece, I have to get rid of an old piece.
Food, I had a pantry full, plus all of our cabinets (and we had a LOT of cabinets in our house) were all FULL of food. We lost a lot of it during our move-it was in storage and got ruined. DH FORBID me to replace it all. It also helped that we no longer had the money to buy that much food.
Papers, I had homework and whatnot saved from as far back as middle school as well. I finally burned it all. Some paperwork I haven't been able to let go of, even though it has no use whatsover-like the pedigrees of my first goats, kidding records, milk records, that kind of thing. Someday soon I'll throw it away.
