It's only sugar coated cuz when you walk in some places you may step on something sticky...usually spilled juice or something to that effect.
It does have character and is cute. I'm partial to it since it's my childhood home. It has the middle oldest part, the part with the bay window to your right if your looking straight on to the house which was an addition but there as mom and dad bought it. My parents added on the addition to the left which includes a basement and that was in the 80's.
But don't let it fool you. Old houses like this are...well, they aren't made like new homes. It's poorly insulated, the additions weren't really tied in right---you shouldn't go from a big ol water pipe to a small copper pipe for the heating system, and you remember I'm still paying off my new boiler?, well, then I almost burned the house down on behalf of the old electrical wiring but luckily a guy at church is an electrician, and the chimney needs repair, and it has 2 septics and one had to be dug up a number of years back and my sidewalk is popped up from that--dirty bastards, and my basement floods, and it's a lot to heat, and the linoleum is peeling up, and the drive is all ice in the winter, and the new windows mom and dad got don't close right, and some other unmentionables but I love it all the same and don't really ever wish to move and that's why I'm really hoping that mom and my sis do come and live with me.
