Last time I did a major coop clean was on my 4x8 coop. I have been wanting to put a roost in there for MONTHS and it has needed a good deep clean for MONTHS as well. It has sat empty lately and everything. So gross. So I cleaned it completely out a couple weekends ago, even though it was freezing outside. Spent ages installing the roost, getting it refilled with fresh and clean shavings, a new nest box, new feeder and waterer.

And it worked PERFECTLY because that big snowstorm blew in so I moved my mottled bantam cochin flock in there and locked them in....and they've been locked in ever since! Perfect timing.

Maple, I'm going to lunch from 12-1. I expect to come back to clean kitty litterboxes and hamster and bunny cages when I return.

I only clean off the poopy eggs. The ones in the nest boxes are usually nice and clean. But for some reason there's an ee that does hers on the floor and will get poopy. Plus the duck egg usually gets poopy. I sometimes use a fine sand paper sheet to sand off "scuff marks" or poop marks if dry and small...this way I don't affect the bloom. If you eat your eggs right away washing the bloom off won't matter. If you want to preserve the bloom than use fine sand paper. This is what I read and researched when getting into chickens. That's all I know.

I wash my eggs in warm water before sticking them in the fridge. I don't wash them if they are going to stay on the counter.

ok, I will start the poopy cleaning AFTER me and Ava put her birthday goody bags together. I may want to handle cookies and candies BEFORE I handle poops. Instead of the horror of my preschooler trying to carry cupcakes on the bus and to her classroom. We have opted to make goody bags...one heart shaped cookie, candy hearts, candy heart reeces, Mike and Ike tropicals, and swedish fish.

You're a good mom, Mapes. I hate making goody bags. I'm the awkward mom who never knows quite what to put in them.
