Cute pics, Batty!

silly kittens followed me and LH up from the barn last night after our second futile attempt to kill raccoons. Then they got confused and didn't stay up at the camper. I found them in the very tall grass by the creek. Poor things all crying and soaking wet from the dew.

But they are all happy and fed and drying back at the barn.

Oh and I bet that grass is painted. I hear they do that sort of thing out west so they can pretend they have "normal" lawns.

Like the looks of your d'Uccle roo.

There's a funny story behind Snowshoes. I had a cruddy hatch--- had 1 out of 80 hatch. So I sent the DH to the feed store to buy 1 chick---he could pick whatever he wanted, so long as the darn thing was a standard. Our feed store doesnt get sexed bantams.

So the DH brings home this chick, normal-sized for a LF day-old, but is OBVIOUSLY a roo, and ~3 weeks old. Snowshoes crowed inside the house at 5 weeks.

Beep-bo-beeeep!

I can grow weeds. You can see there is a tiny little patch of green under the mulberry tree.

Well, if you have to have a bantam, at least its an eye-candy bantam.
My DH would've come home and told me they were out of chicks.

Because he doesn't want you to have any more?

My DH got Snowshoes because "I like the color of her feathers".....well I DIDNT like the color of his gynourmo red comb.

Oh well, he made the sad lonely little chick very happy. His crow is hilarious.

Yeah. For some strange reason my DH is patiently awaiting the day I get bored with chickens and move on to something else.

Yes, little featherfeet sound like gnomes when they crow. I'm hoping that the people who move in behind us have a sense of humor about it, because I have 5 gnomes that crow regularly.
D'Uccles are very friendly, loving birds. I can take an older chick, scoop it out and away from it's buddies to 'mother' a lone chick. It won't be happy but it will still be a good buddy until they can all be combined again. The only onery d'Uccle roo I have is the one that survived 2 dog attacks defending his girls.

Oh, and the GN roo I'm holding until I can sell him. He has more hormones than a high school full of teenage boys

My sister's ex husband's last name is Bates - yes, he would refer to him self as Master Bates.

My FIL's name is Norman. He tells everyone his last name is long "a" not short "a" - so he can be Norman "Bates"
