c/d and some kind of med to give him twice a day for the next three days. They gave him a bunch of fluids and some penicillin too I guess. Oh, and yes, a lovely $100 or so dollar bill. Sigh.

She didn't recommend keeping him on a prescription diet though, which is good, because then she and I would have had a go-round. I don't care for Science Diet foods and will not regularly feed them to my animals. Instead I'm going to try the Diamond and see how that goes, along with much canned food of course.

The key with FUS is to get the fluid moving through the cat. The more they drink the faster the fluid moves through their system and the less time the crystals have to form. So if they drink more and pee more, they have a better chance of getting it out before crystals start or at least before the crystals get big enough to cause problems.

I had to change water dishes to encourage drinking. If your cat is one who will "fall for it", get one of those water fountain things.....or if your cat is obsessed with drinking out of "your" glass, give him his very own "human glass" so he drinks more. I choose the canned foods that are not the lump, but instead the shreds or cuts in gravy. More moisture in those ones. If you are desperate you can add a little more water to them too. The cats usually tend to at least drink all the "gravy" up even if they don't eat all the "meat".

Is the medicine in a tube? Green tube, brown gel?

Well, it's wet, so it helps get more fluids into them so they pee more.

I should probably move the fish tank back down to where he can reach it easily. He's a big fan of fish flavored water.

My cats LOVE the fish tank water!

and ooh I see...wet...pee more...ahhh. Just like me in my first pregnancy and the 5 whole watermelons I ate unassisted.

Funny, I did give him his very own water glass last night.

He likes to drink out of mine on my night stand so I figured it couldn't hurt. I think he'd love a water fountain so I'm going to find one ASAP. And I always buy the shreds in gravy, my cats really don't like the paste foods, as I call them. LOL

Nope, it's clear medicine in a syringe. It has a big long name that I just can't remember right now; I was dealing with a whiny strep throat DH on top of everything else last night. I just squirt the medicine on Minty's wet food and he gobbles it right up - thank God he's not picky.

Okay this may be a sort of TMI cat thing.....but since I only had 1 cat for years, I could tell if he was having problems by the litterbox. If your scoopable litter has little pieces here and there, he may have a partial blockage...it caused a "sprinkler" sort of effect on my cat. Pee would kind of go all over instead of a single stream. I could always tell if he was starting to get blocked up again if there were "sprinkles" of clumps in the litterbox.

Also, what I do (which may just happen to border on neurotic) is that when I scoop, I then flatten the litter out with the scooper. So it is a nice flat fresh thing of litter. Therefore, if I go to scoop later on and it is still flat, I know nobody has "attempted" to go to the bathroom. If there are footprints and dig marks but not pee in thee box, I know that he was in there "trying" unsuccessfully.

I told you I was neurotic

BTW, back when I was researching FUS neurotically, there was a study somewhere that said something like 98% of cats will relapse if they are fed only dry food. I think the rate of relapse on cats eating wet food was about 30%. It was enough to convince me.....

This may be more of a boy-cat thing. Mine never did that, but I've only ever had one male, all the rest were females.

My cats have always had their own human glass. Plus the priveledge of drinking out of the toilet

One used to lick the bathtub dry

Also, they drink from the saucers under my planters.

They never, EVER drink from bowls of water set by their dry food.

Do you feed Norman dry and wet, or just wet Nells?

I wouldn't mind feeding him only wet but I don't want all his teeth to rot and fall out, either.

What to do, what to do...can of wet in the a.m., can of wet in the p.m., dry in between?

O M G

OMG OMG OMG

I just found a baggie with 5 Godiva truffles in it, in my work bag. I had forgotten about them. They've been there since before Christmas.

I am about to go into chocolate sugar shock

Some of them look like dirt-studded eyeballs Beaner!
And one looks like Buffy's white Lindt ballz.......... Only it has cocao shavings all over it.

Heaven
I'm in heaven <singing>
And I'm so happy that I almost cannot speak
As I stuff these chocolate eyeballs in my cheek

While you're not able to speak, may I mention at this time my vitamin-taking-thankyounote-writing progress? I wrote one thank you note so far and have remembered to take my vitamins once this year so far. Since I work at several different desks and offices, I have to get used to taking them at home now. Very difficult.

QUESTION: Can you put a "podcast" on a regular non-Apple MP3 player?

I am so jealous. SO JEALOUS. Need. chocolate. Actually. WAIT.

Just found a toffee & almond in milk chocolate bar in my drawer. NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM.

Orchy, Norman has free-range (LOL) of dry food. FREE CHOICE rather, but free range sounds funnier. Bowl of food all the time and he used to get 1 can in the AM and 1 can in the PM. Now I just give him a BIG can in the PM. He hasn't had problems in years though......he refused to eat the prescription food.
