Saw this ASU billboard on the way home last night (from AZ Grand Resort) and it bugged me all night. Please help me with the math….

1/3 of all our college freshman graduate in the top 10% of their class!

(DHand I argued about this for a while, and no matter what statistical assumptions we made, we got stuck)

1/3 of the people who go to ASU graduated in the top 10% of their (high school) class

For an Ivy League school probably 99% of their freshmen were in the top 10% (or higher ) of their high school class

For a community college, I suspect a fairly low percentage were in the top 10% of their high school class

My reaction:

I don't think I missed a "d"--verified this with cluckin_crazy. Even if I had missed the "d", as a student OR parent, I would still think, "who gives a rat's rear end?"
