A lav is more rare, but I'd bet you'd want higher quality for the same $ now. That's an experience thing. You know, "older / wiser'.

I set my price to recoup the cost of the shipped eggs that hatched my Welsummers. And they were gorgeous birds! POL, so I never got to see their eggs, but the buyer was so pleased he said he'd send me free eggs when I wanted to hatch more Wellies.

I still don't see them in shows around here and wish I hand't sold them. No room for more, though, unless I want to let some eye-candy birds go to new homes.

I can tell you this - from driving in the area. Depending on where you live depends on what it's like. I personally would not live in any border town. Laredo, El Paso and the like are CRAZY! Way too many people from BOTH sides of the border for my liking.

Southern Arizona and New Mexico bite big time. In fact I'd stay north of Phoenix for sure. Same with New Mexico - Albuquerque is nice - at night. During the day it's a giant dust bowl of a trailer park. AND I MEAN THAT IN THE NICEST MOST LOVING WAY!

Texas has such a variety of life and it's so big you could find what you're looking for I'm sure. Personally I like north east Texas best. But out west up by the OK pan handle is cool too.

Oh I love just about all of central Texas.... Family living in the greater DFW area makes it a snap decision, butI am looking for lonely places for later on in life when I'm kidless. The wife and I, some chickens, couple milk goats, hundred acres or so to run a couple cows, and close enough to hunting land to slake my thirst..... But driving through those other states I get the same feel. I like the desert for some reason.
