I have 65 chickens. I forgot to count Deedee. I love Excel spreadsheets....

If I sell 11, and rearrange the remaining 24 teens/adults, then I have space for the 30 newbies to begin growing out. I won't be keeping all the newbies. Plus, I will have the summer pen open for the 3 broodies and their chicks. Only 2 hens are due Monday. The 3rd hen has another 10 days. Whew!

Chickens are such a distraction. Especially when you can't keep the math straight.
So if DH asks how many chickens 'we' have, it's only 24.
If he asks how many birds we have total, I will change the subject.

What do you use for your dye?

Food coloring. I mix it with vinegar and water in a spray bottle.

When people ask me how many chickens I have, I just tell them I don't know. I really don't. I do know that I have A LOT. I have a spreadsheet with a ton of different pages....but I keep going in and deleting birds I plan on selling to see what I will have "left".....I need to go make a MASTER LIST or something. I know I have over 100 currently. I would like to have less than 50. I remember back when I had a dozen. LOL, oh the good ol days.......

I have 5 leaving today (1 BIG rooster and 4 adult hens), 2 chickens and 7 ducks leaving tomorrow.....plus whatever I take to the sale. I believe I am currently planning on taking 18 birds to the sale tomorrow. I THINK. Have 1 more "presold" and looks like maybe another 7 presold leaving next week. It's progres, I guess? But if they have those darn frizzle hens with babies tomorrow again, i am buying the darn things. Progress fail.........

No go on the Pampered Chef party; My friend's husband decided to do something that requires a visit to the ER.

She's having a bad Friday, too.

I decided to let the birds out and sit in the sun, but the worker's are building the house behind us. The problem with having friendly birds is they are not ashamed to 'visit' and say," Hi! Got treats?"
And sprawling in the hammock in front of workmen was not going to happen...

So I sat on the deck and ate some chocolate ice cream. After I put it away, and settled back in my chair, something buzzed me. I didn't flinch, but held real still. It sounded like a June Bug or a Dragonfly. It was neither. It was a lovely lady hummingbird! She and I made eye contact and I said, "Hi there! Did you need something?" She indicated that she wanted to snack on my blooming flowers and I said, "Sure!" She buzzed around a bit and then flew away.

I don't have a hummingbird feeder. I do have 3 cats. I'm thinking about getting a hummingbird feeder anyway, because the cat with claws was clearly not interested. And the flowers in question are next to Fuzzy's food bowl, so Fuzzy HAS to have seen lady hummer before.

Hummingbirds and butterflies have some real magic in them.

I'm glad she didn't want to land on my butt. But now I'm looking at my poofy blue & gold homemade hair scrunch and wondering if she thought it was a flower...

Nella, do we need to do a frizzle intervention?

But but but, they were adult black frizzle hens who were broody moms with like 8 baby chicks. For $12 for the whole group! GRRR......I might bring an extra cage. MAYBE. Just in case. that was 2 weeks ago, they are probably gone now. Right? RIGHT. They had two sets. Sigh. I love frizzles. i have a white one and a black one...both are pullets, about 4 months old. I call them Loofah and Loofah #2.

I put out a hummingbird feeder and had some birds come around but the ants were way too bad so I stopped filling it.

I once got "buzzed" by a bird who apparently thought my curly fro of hair was a nest waiting to happen. I was on a large balcony at a patio at a casino.......standing near the railing. A bird dive bombs me and tries to take my hair with him. No worries, that wasn't embarrassing AT ALL. Back to the slot machines, where its safe..........

Mom smears vegetable oil on the wire that holds the feeder. The ants can't crawl across the oil.

Lori, I've been thinking hard about you for this upcoming week. I do wish a hummingbird would land on your lovely butt.

When my hubby's daughter died of brain cancer in May, at the funeral, a ladybug landed on him. And a ladybug seems to visit Jenny's sister (only sib) on a regular basis too. Pete and Allison have made this their connection with Jenny.

Right now we are raising more Monarch caterpillars and chrysalises. We are addicted to seeing a "mini-death" (ex-caterpillarism) transform to a totally different life (with wings).

This reminds me to go make more sugar water for our resident hummers...
