Ok I lied. I only read the current months posts and since it's only 330 on the 2nd, it didn't take terribly long. And it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Anyways..... my eyes hurt and really would like to go to bed. Not sleeping well and when I do, it's filled with weird, panic inducing dreams.
Lori, sorry to hear about the birds. I fortunately have birds still growing out and no one is laying so I won't even be tempted to fire up the incubator til spring. My cha-chingers are looking to be more boys than girls. Very depressing considering how much money was spent and all. I only have two girls out of the lot.
Come to think of it after the raccoon carnage of the spring, I have very few birds and even fewer girls. Next year will have to be a hatchign frenzy to get back into a proper level of birds for breeding. I have only one lavender female and one lavender male but they are related. Crap. Lots of splits...I guess I'll have to put a split male on them and put the lav male on the non-split female.....no wait, that won't work......daggone it!
Ok wait, this is what I got going on........
These two are hatch mates:
Non split black male (too many points on his comb but he's big and lots of feathers.)
Non-split black female (totally gorgeous and typey)
Non-split black male from Cyn's line. Last of the Suedes.....he's big, slow to develop but really coming around. However, eyes and legs are too light and his comb is too tall.
Chachingers:
Lav male...not real impressive yet. And dumb as a box of blocks. He seems to think he's a duck.
Lav female....not bad looking very feminine
split female...small but not bad
Split male #1....not very large, decent comb but has a huge knot on his leg. been riding hte fence on culling for a couple weeks now. Tall and wiry
Split male #2...ver similar to #1. They just dont' have any real size to them.
My splits:
I have 14 birds growing out. I sold off a bunch last month to pare down because I didn't think I was going to get to keep them. I have four males that I know of for sure. But none are super impressive. And one is got an attitude that is going to land him in the freezer.
The females are all mostly younger - about 3 months old so we will be waiting for a while more.
I am thinking I need to put a split male on the split females. Keep all the resulting lavs.
I really want to hold on to the non split mlae. He is so nice. But with only one lav female, he's gonna be real bored.
Likewise, the lav male on the only non-split female results in the same.
I need to get more outside lav genes, but (no offense to anyone reading this) I have yet to see any lavs being sold that are worth buying.
The same goes for outside black lines. Most breeders are doing BBS and that is great if you want blues and splashes. I don't.
Crap crap crap.
