Ah, quitcher whining. I get 5 paid holidays, and can't work from home on snow days. No work, no pay. So you get... NO SYMPATHY!!! Not from we here at me, anyway.

Going to see if I can borrow a bator for hatching the emu in. The Brower is too big, and the Brinsea is full of precious d'Uccle eggs. So, time to do some scouting and find a local bator I can use. I think I have one in mind....

I sold 2 hens and an 8-week old goldneck chick to a lady in AL who couldn't make the show. Another BYCer picked them up for her. I got a long PM from him about how much he likes them, and wondering about getting some. Score another convert for the doo-clahs!! (I'm told this is how Belgians pronounce it. I think doo-clay is more elegant, but doo-clah is better than duckle.)

Dooooocluhs!

Deyooculls. That's how I say it darn it.

I looked at that blue/yellow chick of mine that is similar to yours this morning. It did turn into a pretty pale blue, no other markings on it. She is still young so coloring may change a bit, but she is a very pretty blue for now.

I was enjoying not having to haul water beyond the big coop this morning. Nothing frozen.....little 8x8 rooster pen is EMPTY and my cochins are still locked up but have food and water.

I should have downsized MONTHS ago. Okay well, I've been trying for months......but now that I'm actually "done" downsizing other than the last batch of roosters.....phew, this is awesome. So much less work.

Beaner, did you ever get an incubator? Or did you have enough broodies to cover your hatching needs?

Pale blue is self-blue aka lavender. If that's what this one is, then she doesn't look anything like my former lavenders did as chicks. My black chick that had similar yellow markings turned out to be black with a lot of white trim and lacing. So I'm wondering if this baby could be lavender mottled. If so, I will be THRILLED! I have at least 3 more eggs in the bator from Orion's pen, and the most recent (the one laid at the show Saturday) is from the lav hen that I'm sure is the mom of this adorable 'penguin' chick (DH's term).

BTW, congrats on reaching your down-sizing goal. I think you've blown your chicken hoarder status.

No, this is not lavender....just a light blue. I've had lavender birds before and this is just blue. I've had dark blues and light blues and every shade in between. Most of my blues are darker, but I've had a few that were lighter here and there.....I'll have to get a pix of her so you can see. She is definitely not lavender (I no longer have any lavender birds in my flock and definitely do not have any splits either).

What are the "possible parents" of this chick? Color wise at least.

I do have incubators. Two little giant foam incubators. They are boxed up in the garage. They both worked last time I used them, but they were also outside and got rained on since then LOL. I would guess at least 1 would still work fine. The other one is missing a screw or something, so the heating element at the top is hanging down.

They probably both need a good scrub/disinfectant. I can't remember whether I did it before boxing them up.

If you wanted to borrow them, I can try to remember to bring them this week when you bring me the birds for LH.

I've definitely stepped down from hoarder status. I have EMPTY PENS AND BROODERS. That in itself is amazing. Now I just need to get everything cleaned up and reorganized. Is it spring yet?
