She had 5. So last night I was in bed - we went to bad about 11 or 1130? Anyway I'm starting to doze off and The Precious comes in to the bedroom. Not quietly mind you! The dog can be a real sneak at times, but not last night. She comes over to the bed and starts nudging me. I'm half asleep I figure she wants em to pet her so I do for about 30 seconds then I'm like - dog, go lay down. But she doesn't she nudges me some more. So now I'm thinking, No way you have to go out. and further more, I'm not getting up!
So again, i'm like yes, I see you. pet, pet, pet. Now go lay down. So she gets up paces around and then comes back to the side of the bed and starts pushing on me again. Ok fine! I'm awake now. I'll go let you out........then I hear high pitched mews
So I head out to the living room and now they are really loud so I flip on the over head light and I see the Toes mounting Spunky and blood on the floor. I yell at him to get off her and spin around to see a kitten on the floor in the doorway of the spare bed room, placenta still attached.
It's cold but fussing. Then I hear a second one. Over by the computer. It's cold but in better shape. I snatch up the two babies and put them with Spunky. Grab Toes, throw him outside. Get a towel from the bathroom and try to warm the babies up. Spunky is totally confused.
I grab a box and an old sweatshirt and put mom and kittens in the box by the fireplace. The Precious is worrying herself over the whole mess. She keeps checking back and forth over the babies. She is such a good mom for other animals' babies! Anywho she and I sat up all night with Spunky. She had 5 little babies. Three black and white, one black, grey and white and a solid grey.
The poor cat was so flipped out. But once we got her settled she handles the last two babies all on her own. She is still working it out. She keeps laying on them and then getting upset because they are crying.
Here's a pic of The Precious checking out the baby......
I'm so proud of her though - the dog, not the cat. I mean, how can you be proud of a 10 month old cat who has sex with her brother and then leaves kittens all over the house? She doesn't even have a job! - But, The Precious! She was all Lassie with her "timmy's in the well" behavior!
