Official Button Quail Thread!!!!

i had a pair of button quails......and i absoutley hated the female!! she was soo abnoctious !! but the male was one of the best quails i ever had i could hold him on my finger...he would fly off and he would sing ah he was nice.........i wish the female would have been more like her mate......but i rid of them awhile ago.

went to clean the pen today and guess what happened! Well, I was taking out one of my blue males and he FLEW right out of my hand....darn little dude wiggled right outta my hand. Luckily my bird dog was out and he caught it. Of course he didnt want to give it up....so I had to chase him all around the yard, once I convinced him to give me the bird, I checked him out, he was slimy from the slobber but completely unharmed. Yay Sebastian. I swear I wish I didnt have to remove them to clean the cage because everytime I do one gets away! Atleast we got this one back, I only have 2 blue males, and while they were in the holding cage one of the girls laid an emerald green egg. GORGEOUS! I need an incubator like yesterday!

I just got back today ... I was gone all weekend!!! Thye quail are just fine. The Bunny hasn't layed an egg yet, though. How long until she will lay one? I want some eggies to incubate!!! AH!

Why do you have to remove them to clean it? Mine are all in solid-bottomed cages, some of them are in totes like Mrs. Fluffy's. I have a small dustpan that I use to scoop the old bedding out with, so I don't have to remove any birds. The ones in the tote, I have to lay a towel over the top when I clean those, just in case anyone tries escaping, but the others have front-opening cages and stay out of the way.

They are in a medium dog cage , the door is so large that when I mess with the inside of the cage, they get flighty and I have a very very hard time keeping them in. Plus it was vaccuum time. Had to get the tray out and vaccuum under it.
