Ended Official BYC 2021 Summer Fair—Favorite Fair Memories

I haven't visited a fair in several years, but the last time I went I had a wonderful time. There was so much to see and do! Vendors at their booths selling popcorn, cotton candy and hot dogs; a stage with loudspeakers where music groups were playing; a colorful ferris wheel, among other dizzying rides; a petting zoo; a textiles display; and the main attraction for me, the animal barns. The large animal barn was filled with the sharp bleating of goats, the deeper baas of sheep, the lowing of cattle, and the occasional snort of a hog or miniature horse. I was especially taken with the friendly, personable Boer goats and adorable, contented-looking pigs. The small animal barn was next, housing rows of cages and pens full of rabbits, cavies, turkeys, ducks, geese, and of course, chickens! I was delighted by the fluffy silkies, awed by the intense looks of a Ayam Cemani rooster, charmed by the tiny stature and puffy cheeks of the Belgian D'anvers.....overall simply astonished by the variety, beauty, and uniqueness of chickens. After watching several 4-H'ers show their birds, we visited the reptile area and then stepped back outside into the blazing mid-day sun to see what else there was to see. We viewed an amusing spectacle in which runner ducks and piglets "raced" around a miniature racetrack in a "competition," and had an excellent lunch, including a turkey drumstick and a funnel cake, the latter of which I discovered I'm not especially partial to.

There! Exactly 250 words! ;)

Sorry if this is short!
It has been about three years since I have been to a fair, but one of my favorite fair memories is playing the Goldfish game!
I loved the thrill of winning that fish, but it sure is a downer when they die.

I remember those goldfish games! At the fairs I went to as a kid, they also used to sell little lizards that had a string tied to one leg and you could pin them to your shirt. Not many of those made it either I bet.

Is there any chance you could make your story longer? The rules state an entry must be between 100-250 words long and yours is short of that.

The last time I went to a fair was in 2020. My family and I were in Ohio, and my sister was showing with her horse, Grit, in 4-H. Grit was mostly blind. Emma (my sister) had showed in the fair before, but this was the first time we got to see her. She has always been an amazing rider, she has always had a way with horses, but seeing her in the fair riding a mostly blind horse and doing incredibly well was wonderful. It was her first time showing with Grit. And sadly, her last as well. Grit is going to be put down this year. But I will always fondly remember that week at fair. I followed Emma around like a puppy with a million questions about everything. She answered every one of them, and let me help her with Grit too. That was when I really fell in love with horses. When my family went to look at farm animals, do rides, and get fair food, I always made sure I would not miss one of Emma's shows. I am sure she had things she would rather do than have me follow her around and ask a couple million questions, but she never made me feel unwanted or like I was just a bother to her. That was by far the best fair week I have ever had.

I used to live down in CA, and we went to the fair twice. My earliest memory is the time where we walked in, saw all the rides and tents, but there was one specific ride we went on multiple times in a row. I included a picture of the ride

This isn't the EXACT ride, but it's what it was. Then, we went on one of those mini roller coasters. It's one of my fondest memories. Afterwards, we went to go get funnel cake and go ride the merry-go-round. Then we went to the Highstriker, you know, the game where you hit the bottom with a hammer and ring the bell? I won a huge inflatable dolphin, and my brother won an inflatable alien.

Thanks for including a picture of that ride...I went on one of those once with a 7 year old niece who didn't enjoy it at all. After the ride was over, she cried and said that was a "big girl" ride.

Once, when I was 7 or 8, I was just barely tall enough to go on one of the larger roller coasters, instead of the kiddy rides. My father took me on the smallest of the big ones. I had the time of my life, although I was thoroughly annoyed by the people in the car behind me, who could scream louder than I. I still remember the feeling of joy when we went down that almost vertical slope. But quickly the ride was over, and it was time for me to get off. As good 'ol dad helped me onto the platform, I was very dizzy. As my dad tells me the story he says " you opened your mouth. I was afraid that you were going to throw up, but then you just laughed!" I laughed for quite a while until it was time to do something else! And I've NEVER been on a roller coaster since.
