Ended Official BYC Mini-Contest—What's Your Hobby?

One of my many hobbies is photography. I do OK at it, and consider myself to be semi-pro (meaning I do occasionally make money off of it but it's not my main income source). To me, a photograph is a memory of a moment in time. A visual document of something I found to be interesting or exciting, or a record of a similar moment in someone else's life (via portraits or event photography). I tend to shy away from people photography and focus more on tings that don't blink or cry, or ask you to make them look less fat in post. Here's a few examples.

Beautiful photos (that last one, of the dog, is gorgeous)!

Another of my hobbies is art. I draw and paint (mostly paint these days). I started off with doing coloring books as a coping mechanism with covid, and it morphed into some drawing. Then I got into paint pouring with my kids and just really connected with the unstructured chaotic elements of that style. Then I saw a guy on YT doing these amazing space paintings with spray paint. I don't really have the room to do spray paint art in the garage, so I figured out a way to do something similar with arylics utilizing paint pours. The rest is history. Last year I did a piece a week, this year my average a a lot lower, I just don't have as much free time or energy. Again, I would say I'm a semi-pro. I have sold several pieces and do commissions fairly frequently. Here's some examples. (I checked to make sure I haven't entered any of these before, think I'm good)

Very nice, love the colors!

Next to watching chicken tv, my second favorite hobby for the past several years has been fossil-hunting. (Still a distant second to watching chicken tv.😁) Hunting for fossils is a true treasure hunt, and it's especially awesome to find a rare fossil (i.e. one I don't have yet) as well as gigantic specimens representing their species. The ultimate find is an intact fossil species in matrix, but it's rare to find those since major floods usually wash bones away. I usually only go hunting after major floods, since that is the best time to find the best fossils before someone else spies and scoops them up. It's very tranquil down on a river or creek bed hearing nothing but streaming water and various birdsong while I hunt. I Could sell the fossils if I wanted to, but I prefer to keep them for my own enjoyment. One day when I leave this good earth, someone else can possess and enjoy my finds.😊
