I treat the birds and coops as needed with permethrin dust or spray.

For permethrin dilution amounts:

Permethrin Dilution - Updated with Product PDFs

Hi Casportpony! What’s the best way to spray each chicken? Do we need to saturate them with the diluted permethrin 10% all over their bodies? I’m not sure how far to go with it. Tomorrow it will be warm here so no worries in chilling them. We have mites and it’s our first time treating. We have a new coop for them, should we use the poultry dust in the new bedding and also spray the coop? We don’t want to poison the poor hens :( Thanks in advance!

Spray the coop for sure. If it's going to be chilly, use the dust on the birds, if not, spray them. Get the skin wet around their vents, some on the legs, back, under the wings, and the neck.

Dust bath of sand & wood ashes with some powdered sulphur. Sprigs of fresh lavender and rosemary wired to outer undersides of perches.
