Official BYC Poll: What Poultry Are You Currently Raising?

Chickens and Royal Palm turkeys for me! Poults were an impulse buy, but absolutely head over heels about 'em. Total feather puppies!

I incubated some duck eggs and they were fun but alas, I knew I wasn't going to be able to keep up with their needs and decided to find the little waddlers happy wet homes they can live out their days, which in turn let me expand the dry run for the remaining flock!

For a lot of people, having just chickens just isn't enough. Most start off with chickens, then start getting into other, bigger (or smaller), types of poultry. Chickens are amazing, versatile, and generally get along just fine with other poultry.

So in this poll we're interested in finding out: What Poultry Are You Currently Raising?

Beginner Chicken mom. We have 5 hens - 2 Brahmas - our first chicks now 1 year old, 2 Golden Wyandottes we got as chicks last May and 1 RI Red/Leghorn cross we got at laying age. She has laid practically every day since June, she's a little machine!
I'd like to add a couple more adult hens. I'm a sucker for the grown chicks, left overs that didn't sell as babies. Our feed store keeps them up front where I always have to walk past those lonely girls & boys needing a nice run to play in.

I started with parakeets, added finches and cockatiels. Then Bantum Silkies, added Pekin ducks, quail and now have Old English Game roo and hen. Then I got some free fertilized eggs from the feed store that came from hens that were for sale, and they turned out to be a pretty Old English roo and two Frizzells.

I'd have to find somewhere else to shop. Just reading that made my heart ache. Having to walk away from them every time I needed to purchase feed would be too much. You're awesome for choosing them and giving them a loving home!

Just 7 tiny chickens over here. Planning to buy some fertile bantam eggs this spring. First choice will be bantam RIR for a few eggs in winter.

Still figuring out if I could keep a few small ducks too in community property. There is a small stream with a well behind our garden where hardly anyone comes, where cats (chick killers) roam. If half-wild ducks can live there with additional feeding in a duck house on the water, I would like to try that. But I suppose the cats are a nasty problem. And because it’s not my property I can’t build any fences to protect them.

Then all ducks would end at the seashore?

The small stream is very calm , just approx 2 meters wide and about 200 - 300 meters long. From the spring it floats to where it goes underground with concrete culverts to pop up again in a suburb at the other side of a few roads.

Not forever, but they can easily follow it for a bit and not return. It is a beautiful setting.
