We had chicks that got coccidiosis but they were separated from the main flock so only they got it. We healed it and now they are perfectly fine.
A lot of hens from our main flock got bumblefoot and we fixed some of them but a lot of them healed by themselves.
And the only other one that they had on the poll were worms. They had large roundworms and we dewormed them so now they are all better!:D

I have one chicken lady who has bumblefoot but it doesn’t seem to affect her walking and it’s not swollen at all so I’m gonna let it be and just keep an eye on it I dont want to mess with surgery unless it’s absolutely necessary otherwise very healthy I keep a really clean coop and run

My newer flock has been healthy besides having 1 rooster with bumblefoot a few months back and a slight mite outbreak that was quickly treated within a few days with DE.

Now my original flock were all culled or passed away from Mycoplasma and Mareks. We introduced new laying hens from a mennonite egg farm in our area and unknowingly introduced these deadly diseases to our flock. I wanted more eggs and didn't see anything wrong with the hens I purchased. We quarantined them for a few weeks and only noticed they didn't walk around much, we just thought this was from them being confined all of their lives. Needless to say, we wanted to have healthy birds and make a profit and it wouldn't happen with a bunch of sick birds.

Also, we have dealt with coccidiosis because we raise 50+ chicks at a time. We've gotten to the point of just preventing coccidiosis with Corid or treating it if it gets bad, but it doesn't really get anywhere any more. We have gotten good at controlling it and rarely have a death to coccidiosis. We also are to the point of selling chicks a day or so after they hatch so we don't run into it as much.
I didn't know that it was safe to sell chicks if you've had Mareks in your flock. How does that work? This is an innocent question. No ill intention in any way.

Edited to add: My apologies. I didn't mean to go off topic and I believe this could lead that way. Please disregard

I have a healthy flock ( 6-9 chickens )
but had some sick chicks and chickens in the past 7 years.
  • A few chicks I started with 7+ years ago suddenly died and one that didn’t get along well died after a few months.
  • A year later I had my own chicks (broodies) who got some kind of cold , but they all healed without medication.
  • Another year later I had a tiny red mite problem, solved with DE before it got a problem.
  • A few years later one chicken had a dirty vent. Cleaned, quarantined. It healed by itself.
  • Last spring I had a chicken just a few years old that layed a few shell-less eggs. She probably got an internal infestation. She died just one day after I noticed she was sick.
  • And to complete the ‘picture’ I lost 2 chickens to predators last year: fox and buzzard.

I chose Bumblefoot and Other.
I’ve had pasty butt in chicks.
I rescued 4 pasty butt chicks this spring. They all recovered super well. One had a slight prolapse that cracked to e skin and started to bleed. But she was fine after about a week. All are happy adults now.
I have a hen with bumbles on both feet.
I noticed, in July, that one of my hens was walking a little funny. Well, I picked her up and found dime-sized scabs on each foot! We’re still treating her.
I have a hen with a deformed (aka just plain messed up) crop.
Salt has had a messed up crop FOREVER.It has never been fixed. I believe there is a kink in the tube or something…but it’s not fixable. Believe me, I’ve tried. Crop bras, vet visits, medications, massages, special diets…nothing has worked. She’s okay though. It hits her hardest in the winter.
I had a hen become egg bound. (She recovered).

Out of the 15 chicks i bought from a hatchery, 4 of them have succumbed to cocci.
One mild case of bumblefoot that i am trying to treat. (The girl is not that helpful and her feet are very sensitive)
Last year had a girl with fowl pox who was killed by a fox.
Two prolapses that both healed.
Mites/Lice that i am trying to treat.

This is the first year that I've had this many problems with my flock. I guess its just that unlucky year.
