Official Christmas Hatch! c'mon and join

Yay for all you hatchers! Thanks for sharing pics, I hope to do the same! This has been a fun "hatchathon" on the BYC; have gotten to read & share with some real nice, funny, kind, supportive, helpful & experienced people. Never thought of doing it before; glad to have joined in.

technodoll: Hope to see you on one of these "hatchalongs" in the Spring.

charmedbychickens: So glad you got some hatches, hey I thought they were for the 24th! Good for you.

Pegasusgirl: These are your eggs, good fertility. Bet you're crossing your fingers for me.

The Warden: Great chickie & stuffed animal pic. Now if we could just make those out of sponges, they'd have dual purpose in the bator. Congrats!

Have peeping & 2 pips at 9:00 pm; 6 or 7 eggs due to hatch on 24th, today. Can hardly wait to see them on their feet. Wonder if I'll sleep thru the night! Wish me luck!

Merry Christmas to you all!

The 1st hatched is a Bantam Faverolles, is right on time & is strong. There are 5 or 6 more to go.

QUESTION: When would you drop the temp down to 95 F?

In the past, I would take this one out within a few hours & put into the brooder at 95 F. But... am doing the "dry incubation" method for the first time & will not be opening the bator until all are hatched; tomorrow morning if all done should be a good time for the brooder. That's the plan, to not drop the humidity for the rest; hold me back! Don't feel that now is the time to go down to 95 F, because of the others to hatch. Thanks! Will post pics tomorrow.

Maintain the temps during lockdown... you gotta get the other little chickies here.

Congrats on that first Christmas baby.

So I woke up and checked my first pip, he's shrink wrapped and hasn't moved a bit in 14 hours. I mean he's moving a little, but he can't go anywhere. So I decided to help him. I've got 2/3 of the top off of him and his wing is out but he was starting to get cool and the back half of the membrane was much more vascular so we're taking a break. I moistened it and put him back in the bator. My other two pips haven't moved either :-( Should I expect them to do the same thing? I got humidity up to 68... I dont know why they're shrink wrapped unless its from them being low during incubation.

Present count:
12 Delawares
1 Meg (RIR x BBS Orp) and SUEDE (BIG Blue Orp) baby
1 Fern (BR) baby zipping
1 BBS Orp rolling around, but no pip.(3 other BBS eggs)

Day 20 for part 3 of my staggered hatch ... White Faced Black Spanish.

Brandi .... patience ... It can take 24 hours (or longer!) from pip to hatch!

ETA: Ya know what you could do ... spend time on the name game. That will keep you occupied for a little while! LOL What letter are we on, anyway? T ?
T
Teddy (Teddy bear for Christmas?)
Tobo (Toboggan ????)
I dunno ... you think of some!

So the little guy I helped is out, and his umbilical cord was still attached so I wrapped him up in a paper towel and sat him back inside the shell in the carton...which he promptly kicked himself out of (he's feisty) and was dragging his shell around which had me concered bc it made the umbilicus bleed a bit, but he must have stretched it or something when I wasn't looking be he is separated from it now and theres a bit of blood on the umbilicus but he's not bleeding all over the place or anything so I think it's ok? He's trying to walk around a bit and actually re-opened the place where the umbilical had started bleeding because he kept rubbing it on the mesh floor and opening it. So I took him out (yes I opened bator AGAIN

) and put corn starch on his belly button and wrapped him up in a paper towel and taped it in an egg shape around its lower half so it has to rest and so it doesn't rub it open. so now it's wrapped up and resting. still peeping like mad but resting anyway. Will post pic soon. The other two pips haven't moved since 9pm last night but I am hoping the humidity is high enough they wont dry out. It's been at 65 since last night finally. I dont want to have to do that again...very scary.

after the corn starch and he's forced to rest while he's wrapped up... He looks like he'll have some of his Daddy's dark flecks on his back. Keeping my fingers crossed for him and some progress with the other two pips while I go open some gifts, cook, and clean! Merry Christmas! btw... "you'll shoot your eye out kid" :) Yep, I'm one of the fools who watches that for 24 hours!
