How's it going? Did you move that bator yet?
I used bottled water bottles filled with 100 degree water when the power went out and moved the bator close to the woodstove. Kept warm at 96.

Good luck!!!!!!

Well, out of 14 eggs, 12 hatched, one of which I had to help out...it had been almost 48 hours since he pipped, but then nothing...I heard him peeping the whole time, then less often, so I decided to bite the bullet and help him out. This took place yesterday, he was fully formed, but very tired, and I think too big for his shell so he couldn't turn around to zip open. He will take water from my fingernail, but hasn't used the waterer yet...I'm keeping a close eye on him, I'm still not sure if he'll make it! I candled the remaining 2 eggs today, both had expired, so it's time to disinfect the hatcher for the next batch of eggs, due to go into lockdown this coming Tuesday...Congrats to all, and Happy Holidays!

Any "Day after Christmas" people out there? I feel like I am the lone ranger here on day 21 watching a show that will never start!!!

Sangel....I hope your peeps are hanging in there!!

I never thought about hatching eggs in the winter. This thread has inspired me, even though I haven't had much luck incubating. I may have to try it again when the hens start laying. I haven't gotten an egg in about a week. The last one I found was froze and cracked.

I just wanted to thank you all for the inspiration, and the knowledge. It helped me to realize some of the mistakes I made last time I incubated. I would never have thought an egg dropped from 2 feet and cracked would ever have hatched!!!

Keep the pictures comming! I'll be looking for them.

As of this moment I have 10 live chicks and one zipping. It appears as if the membrane might have dried out. He was one of the first pips on Christmas Eve. He is still moving and peeping so I hope he makes it.

Edited: Just after I posted this he popped out!

On a sad note I had to put down a baby that hatched during the night. It's insides were outside of the umbilicus and one of his legs was horribly deformed. It was flat at the hock so I first thought it might be a slipped tendon. Then I noticed that the leg as twisted around protruding up instead of down. He was in obvious pain with any attempt I made at manipulating it. I didn't think with the combined deformities he had any chance so I ended his short little life. It was so very hard to do but he is no longer crying in pain, although I am.

The little guy with the one-sided spraddle leg is hobbling around with his splint on. He is feisty. I put him in a Tupperware container in the brooder because the others were pecking his bandaids. He was out this morning running around with the others with his bandaid loose. I took the splint off and put a green dot on his head so that I can watch him for the leg problem.

I also put a bully in Tupperware for overnight and he had escaped as well. I need taller Tupperware containers!

I still have nine with no pips. Interestingly, 6 of the nine were from the group that spent the fist half of their incubation in the Hovabator with temp fluctuations. The other 3 had been in the Brinsea from Day One. A coincidence?
