Official Coop Thread

Very n
Very nicely done, I would be also afraid to get locked in specially winter time.

They freak me out too...lol I plan to drill a small hole in coop to thread a small rope through. It'll be knotted on both ends. One end to the latch, the other inside. So if it eer does close on me, I can pull the rope from the inside to open it.

Am I just missing seeing any ventilation?

Yes and no...lol I didn't put in any register or vents (still can if I need to). However, this is a pallet-style coop. The seams are not "air tight." With how it is now, it gets A LOT of ventilation. When it's 85-90 outside, you can tell how substantially cooler it is inside, especially with a breeze.

Here she is, about 95% done! I need to finish (block off) bottom of run, and put in chicken door. After that, finished! Materials are getting scarce, so I had to get creative with run top...lol

I love the look of the door and the use of reclaimed lumber. Makes it look like the coop has always been there. I like it when things look aged and like they have a story to tell. I suppose that's why I probably wouldn't ever buy a home in a new subdivision.

Did a little work this morning. I took apart / removed their multi-level roost. I simply put up a 8ft, single beam roost. It opens up floor space, and will be, I assume to be true, a lot more comfortable for them.

Finished the coop staircase for run. It is not very steep so I am not worried about "exact spacing." The 4 bottom ones are 5" apart, and the final one isn't...lol

I haven't been happy with the roost for a little while. It took up too much space, and made walking a little "tight." So I ended up cutting off the parts that extend out, and the one that extended to back wall. I put in a food/water platform in as well.

So I finished the nesting box today! I elevated the original "nest box: enough to allow for the littler, but not so high that it's an issue. I made a overhang that doubles (as can be seen...lol) as another perch / platform. The eggs are easily reached from the outside as well. I think it turned out pretty awesome...
