Yay for silkies!
The best rooster I've ever had was a Black silkie. We saved him and his girlfriend when they were about a year old. They had been raised and kept almost entirely in a cage all their life. Me and my sister brought him home and Mom said, "No way are we having a rooster!"
We then begged her to let us at least "let him out" since he had such a long drive back to our house. The moment he hit the ground, he turned on his charm, and my Mom fell in love with him.
He kept our hens safe for over 5 years before we lost him to a raccoon. He died trying to save his ladies. It's amazing how we didn't pay a cent for him, and by the time he died, he had saved our hens from countless hawks, dogs, raccoons, and other creatures. We owed HIM so much.
